Fast and bioluminescent detection of antibiotic contaminants by on-demand transcription of RNA scaffold arrays
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Sep 8;1273:341538. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341538. Epub 2023 Jun 17.ABSTRACTCell-free biosensors have inspired low-cost and field-applicable methods to detect antibiotic contaminants. However, the satisfactory sensitivity of current cell-free biosensors is mostly achieved by sacrificing the rapidity, which prolongs turnaround time by hours. Additionally, the software-based result interpretation provides an obstacle for delivering these biosensors to untrained individuals. Here, we present a bioluminescence-based cell-free biosensor, termed enhanced Bioluminescence sensing of Ligand-Unleashed RNA Expres...

A study on the performance of a novel adsorbent UiO-66 modified by a nickel on removing tetracycline in wastewater
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 7:139399. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139399. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the present study, Ni-UiO-66 was synthesized to improve the adsorption efficiency of tetracycline (TC) in wastewater treatment. To this end, nickel doping was performed in the preparation process of UiO-66. The synthesized Ni-UiO-66 was characterized by XRD, SEM and EDS, BET, FTIR, TGA, and XPS for obtaining the lattice structure, surface topography, specific surface area, surface functional groups, and thermostability. More specifically, Ni-UiO-66 has a removal efficiency and adsorption capacity of up to 90% and 120 mg...

Environ Res. 2023 Jul 7:116554. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116554. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe detection of efficacious and environment-friendly nanomaterials with prominent photocatalytic performance is crucial for the detoxification of antibiotics in wastewater. Herein, a dual-S-scheme Bi5O7I/Cd0.5Zn0.5S/CuO semiconductor was designed and fabricated via a simple approach to degrade tetracycline (TC) and other types of antibiotics under LED illumination. However, Cd0.5Zn0.5S and CuO nanoparticles were decorated on the surface of the Bi5O7I microsphere to create a dual-S-scheme system that stimulates visible-light ut...

In vitro evaluation of probiotic properties and selenium bioaccumulation of lactic acid bacteria isolated from poultry gastrointestinal, as an organic selenium source
Res Vet Sci. 2023 Jun 29;162:104934. doi: 10.1016/j.rvsc.2023.06.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to examine the probiotic characteristics and selenium (Se) bioaccumulation potential of five Lactobacillus strains in vitro. Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. delbrueckii subsp. lactis, L. reuteri, L. gallinarum, and L. animalis were among the strains employed. As significant aspects of probiotics, identification, and evaluation of their survival potential in the gastrointestinal system were undertaken. Although all experimental Lactobacillus strains bioaccumulated Se (IV) concentrations in media cu...

The mechanisms of minocycline in alleviating ischemic stroke damage and cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury
Eur J Pharmacol. 2023 Jul 6:175903. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175903. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStroke is a group of diseases resulting from cerebral vascular rupture or obstruction and subsequent brain blood circulation disorder, leading to rapid neurological deficits. Ischemic stroke accounts for the majority of all stroke cases. The current treatments for ischemic stroke mainly include t-PA thrombolytic therapy and surgical thrombectomy. However, these interventions aimed at recanalizing cerebral vessels can paradoxically lead to ischemia-reperfusion injury, which exacerbates the severity of brain damage. Minocycli...

Prevalence, antibiotic susceptibility and genomic analysis of Salmonella from retail meats in Shaanxi, China
This study aimed to assess the prevalence, antibiotic susceptibility, and genomic features of Salmonella isolates recovered from 600 retail meat samples (300 pork, 150 chicken and 150 beef) from August 2018 to October 2019 in Shaanxi, China. Overall, 40 (6.67 %) of 600 samples were positive to Salmonella, with the highest prevalence in chicken (21.33 %, 32/150), followed in pork (2.67 %, 8/300), while no Salmonella was detected in beef. A total of 10 serotypes and 11 sequence types (STs) were detected in 40 Salmonella isolates, with the most common being ST198 S. Kentucky (n = 15), ST13 S. Agona (n = 6), and ST17 S. Indian...
