Percutaneous cholecystostomy in the management of acute cholecystitis-comparative analysis of before and after the COVID 19 pandemic
CONCLUSION: PC is an effective and safe treatment method that reduced the operating room and intensive care burden during the exacerbation of the COVID 19 pandemic. Therefore, it seems like a logical option to expand the PC indications at times when the number of COVID 19 patients increases.PMID:37681720 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.22901

A fully integrated duplex RT-LAMP device for the detection of viral infections
In this study, we showed and evaluated a prototype of a microfluidic system, and showed that duplex RT-LAMP can detect and distinguish between the two viruses, with LoDs of 2,000 copies/ml for bovine coronavirus and 200 copies/ml for influenza A/X-31 virus.PMID:37682413 | PMC:PMC10491696 | DOI:10.1007/s10544-023-00676-w

Management of coronavirus disease 2019 vaccine-induced cutaneous complications: A comprehensive literature review
J Family Community Med. 2023 Jul-Sep;30(3):161-170. doi: 10.4103/jfcm.jfcm_3_23. Epub 2023 Jul 24.ABSTRACTDespite the numerous reports of cutaneous manifestations associated with vaccines for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the relationship between COVID-19 vaccines and cutaneous side effects remains unevaluated. In this review, we examine these manifestations and their management. Reported dermatoses included injection-site reaction (early and delayed), type I allergic reaction, morbilliform eruption, pityriasis rosea, Sweet syndrome, lichen planus, psoriasis, herpes zoster reactivation, erythema multiforme, Stevens-...

Stimuli-Responsive Hydrogel Microcapsules Harnessing the COVID-19 Immune Response for Cancer Therapeutics
We present the development of stimuli-responsive microcapsules, loaded with a viral immunogenetic agent, harnessing the immune response against the Coronavirus Disease 2019, COVID-19, to selectively attack liver cancer cells (hepatoma) or recognize breast cancer or hepatoma, by expression of green fluorescence protein, GFP. The pH-responsive microcapsules, modified with DNA-tetrahedra nanostructures, increased hepatoma permeation by 50%. Incorporation of a GFP-encoding lentivirus vector inside the tumor-targeting pH-stimulated miRNA-triggered and Alpha-fetoprotein-dictated microcapsules enables the demonstration of neoplas...

Awareness and attitudes of elderly Southeast Asian adults towards telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic: a qualitative study
CONCLUSION: Our results showed poor overall awareness of the range of telehealth services available among elderly Asian individuals, with many harbouring erroneous views regarding their use. These data suggest that public health education campaigns are needed to improve awareness of and correct negative perceptions towards telehealth services in elderly Asians.PMID:37675683 | DOI:10.4103/singaporemedj.SMJ-2022-117

First cases of SARS-CoV-2 BA.2.86 in Denmark, 2023
We describe 10 cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant BA.2.86 detected in Denmark, including molecular characteristics and results from wastewater surveillance that indicate that the variant is circulating in the country at a low level. This new variant with many spike gene mutations was classified as a variant under monitoring by the World Health Organization on 17 August 2023. Further global monitoring of COVID-19, BA.2.86 and other SARS-CoV-2 variants is highly warranted.PMID:37676147 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.36.2300460

Impact of COVID-19 on the End-of-Life Care of Cancer Patients Who Died in a Korean Tertiary Hospital: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that EOL care for cancer patients who died in a tertiary hospital deteriorated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The implementation of medical care at the EOL and the preferred place of death should be discussed carefully in advance for high-quality EOL care.PMID:37674665 | PMC:PMC10179996 | DOI:10.14475/jhpc.2022.25.4.150

Elevated tacrolimus levels among COVID-19 kidney transplant recipients are associated with worse disease severity and clinical outcomes
CONCLUSION: Elevated tacrolimus levels occur in many renal transplant recipients with moderate to severe COVID-19 and are associated with worse clinical outcomes. Close drug monitoring is crucial to avoid toxicities and minimize over-immunosuppression complications.PMID:37675489 | DOI:10.5414/CN111137
