Thromboembolic disease and cancer: Attitude and practice of general practitioners. A qualitative study
DISCUSSION: The question of etiology of cancer remains unanswered. General practioners would like to be made aware of a common, codified attitude. Patient Adherence to Secondary Prevention Therapies After an Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Scoping Review
Clin Ther. 2023 Sep 8:S0149-2918(23)00314-4. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2023.08.011. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: Adherence to guideline-recommended, long-term secondary preventative therapies among patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is fundamental to improving long-term outcomes. The purpose of this scoping review was to provide a broad synopsis of pertinent studies in a structured and comprehensive way regarding factors that influence patient adherence to medical therapy after ACS.METHODS: Relevant articles focusing on adherence to medical therapy after ACS were retrieved from the EMBASE and MEDLINE data...

Importance of screening severe COVID-19 patients for IFN- λ1, IL-6 and anti-S1 IgG levels
The objective of this study is to screen IFN-λ1, IL-6 and antibody levels in consecutive serum sample sets of COVID-19 patients. A total of 365 serum samples collected from 208 hospitalized COVID-19 patients were analyzed for IFN-λ1 and IL-6 levels as well as SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies and anti-S1 IgG antibodies. Analyses of serum samples for cytokine levels showed that IFN-λ1 (>8 pg/mL) and IL-6 (>2 pg/mL) were detected in approximately 64% and 21% patients, respectively. A decrement in IFN-λ1 levels and IL-6 levels above 35 pg/mL can be sign of clinical severity and upcoming dead. An increment in IL-6 l...

Racial Disparities in Breast Cancer Treatments and Adverse Events in the SEER-Medicare Data
Cancers (Basel). 2023 Aug 30;15(17):4333. doi: 10.3390/cancers15174333.ABSTRACTDespite lower incidence rates, African American (AA) patients have shorter survival from breast cancer (BC) than white (W) patients. Multiple factors contribute to decreased survival, including screening disparities, later presentation, and access to care. Disparities in adverse events (AEs) may contribute to delayed or incomplete treatment, earlier recurrence, and shortened survival. Here, we analyzed the SEER-Medicare dataset, which captures claims from a variety of venues, in order to determine whether the cancer care venues affect treatment ...
