Prevalence of End Stage Kidney Disease and distribution of treatment modalities
Nephrol Ther. 2023 Aug 28;18(S2):25-30. doi: 10.1016/S1769-7255(22)00563-6.ABSTRACTOn the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the REIN (French Renal Epidemiology and Information Network), a summary work on the contributions of the national French ESKD register was carried out. On the issue of ESKD prevalence, the following key messages were retained. While chronic kidney disease affects all age groups, there always are more patients to treat in the older age groups, with a median age of 71.1 years (IIQ 60.3-80.0) under dialysis and 58.7 years (IIQ 47.4-68.3) under renal transplant. Despite an increase in transplant activit...

Correlation Between Serum Homocysteine Levels and Carotid Intima-media Thickening in Hemodialysis Patients
CONCLUSION: The results of the study suggest that there is no relationship between serum homocysteine level and carotid intima-media thickness in hemodialysis patients. DOI: 10.52547/ijkd.7424.PMID:37634249

Correlation of Red Blood Cell Casts With Renal Dysfunction in Patients With Infection-related Glomerulonephritis
CONCLUSIONS.—: Particular attention to the extent of RBC casts on kidney biopsy is recommended in patients with IRGN because these portend worse renal dysfunction, more so in patients requiring anticoagulation (including for hemodialysis) because they are especially vulnerable to developing anticoagulant-related nephropathy.PMID:37622459 | DOI:10.5858/arpa.2022-0514-OA

In silico screening of nanoporous materials for urea removal in hemodialysis applications
This article is licensed under aCreative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported Licence.Thomas Fabiani, Eleonora Ricci, Cristiana Boi, Simone Dimartino, Maria Grazia De Angelis The design of miniaturized hemodialysis devices, such as wearable artificial kidneys, requires regeneration of the dialysate stream to remove uremic toxins from water. Adsorption has the potential to capture such... The content of this RSS Feed (c) The Royal Society of Chemistry

Dialysis costs for a health system participating in value-based care
CONCLUSIONS: In a major health system, crash starts demonstrated the highest cost and hospital utilization, a pattern that persisted after dialysis initiation. Developing strategies to promote optimal starts will improve VBC contract performance.PMID:37616151 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2023.89410

Predictors of functional impairment and mortality in patients on maintenance hemodialysis
CONCLUSIONS: Older age and suppressed PTH levels are predictors of mortality in ESRD patients receiving MHD. These patients require regular follow-ups to rule out cardiovascular morbidity. Functional impairment is prevalent but remains underdiagnosed in MHD patients. It should be monitored regularly to improve quality of life in ESRD.PMID:37615221 | DOI:10.1111/sdi.13173
