Otosclerosis under the magnifying glass
Rom J Morphol Embryol. 2023 Apr-Jun;64(2):189-197. doi: 10.47162/RJME.64.2.09.ABSTRACTOtosclerosis is a bone condition affecting the stapes bone within the otic capsule, and its exact cause is still unknown. It is characterized by a lack of proper remodeling of newly formed vascular and woven bone, leading to the development of abnormal osteons and the formation of sclerotic bone. Bilateral otosclerosis is seen in 80% of patients and 60% of otosclerosis patients have a family history of the condition. The etiology of this disease is still unknown, there are lots of theories to explain it. The histopathological (HP) studies...

E-081 Endovascular treatment of pulsatile tinnitus caused by a dilated mastoid emissary vein: a case report and literature review
ConclusionEndovascular coil embolization appears to be an effective treatment for pulsatile tinnitus associated with MEVs, as demonstrated by our case and a review of existing literature. Despite the limited number of reported cases, the consistent success in symptom resolution suggests the potential for this treatment option in similar patients. Additionally, the endovascular approach is advantageous due to the ability to utilize BTO to evaluate symptomatic response prior to embolization. Further research with larger cohorts is needed to establish the long-term efficacy and safety of this approach.Abstract E-081 Figure 1A...

E-120 The utility of MRI and MRA in the follow-up evaluation of treated dural arteriovenous fistulas: a preliminary analysis
ConclusionMRI/MRA evidence of residual or recurrent dAVF is not reliably found between two neuroradiologists or as compared to angiographic results. Catheter angiogram remains the standard for follow-up of treated dAVF.ReferencesNewton TH, Cronqvist S. Involvement of dural arteries in intracranial arteriovenous malformations. E-122 Stapedotomy facilitated by endovascular occlusion of a persistent stapedial artery
ConclusionA PSA is a rare vascular variant and can be associated with other anomalies involving the arterial and osseous structures of the middle ear. Endovascular occlusion of a PSA is a feasible and safe procedure in patients with favorable vascular anatomy. It can decrease the size of the PSA prior to middle ear surgery and thereby minimizing the risk of peroperative bleeding and allowing for stapedotomy especially in patients with a large PSA. The exact role of endovascular occlusion for the treatment of PSA-related conductive hearing loss and pulsatile tinnitus remains to be determined.Abstract E-122 Figure 1Disclosur...

O-025 Clinical history and physical examination can differentiate arteriovenous shunts from venous causes of pulsatile tinnitus
ConclusionsClinical history and physical examination achieve high performance for detecting a shunting cause of PT. Treatable venous etiologies can be predicted by relief with jugular compression. These findings support the value of a focused clinical assessment in the initial evaluation of patients with PT.Abstract O-025 Figure 1Disclosures D. Cummins: None. M. Caton: None. K. Hemphill: None. E-052 Post-operative weight loss in venous sinus stenting patients
ConclusionsIn conclusion, this study demonstrated that venous sinus stenting may result in modest decreases in BMI in IIH patients. The evidence suggests that with the intervention of venous sinus stenting, patients experienced a decrease in their BMI regardless of papilledema resolution. Further research such as larger prospective trials are needed to further understand the effect of transverse sinus stenting on weight loss.Disclosures A. Paul: None. A. Gajjar: None. A. Rogers: None.
