Tinnitus as a Potential Risk Factor for Uveitis: A 14-Year Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study in Taiwan
CONCLUSION: Tinnitus patients were found to have increased risk of developing uveitis.PMID:37437268 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2023.2232444

Prospective comparative analysis of cochlear implant patients with single-sided deafness and asymmetric hearing loss with regard to health-related quality of life, tinnitus distress and psychological comorbidities
CONCLUSION: SSD and AHL patients differ significantly preoperatively in terms of their subjective hearing assessment and psychosocial parameters. In SSD patients, psychological stress factors may have a stronger impact on the quality of life than in AHL patients. These aspects should be taken into account in the preoperative counseling and postoperative rehabilitation.PMID:37436479 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-023-01318-6

Comparative study of SSNHL with and without tinnitus: audiologic and hematologic differences
CONCLUSION: Tinnitus accompanying SSNHL may be associated with baseline hearing level, as well as being an indicator of damage to outer hair cells and auditory nerves. Additional studies are needed to evaluate hematologic data in SSNHL patients with and without tinnitus.PMID:37435834 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2229376

Saved From Permanent Expulsion: Renal Autotransplant for Aneurysmal Disease
A 34-year-old Caucasian woman was referred for evaluation of a large right renal artery aneurysm. Her past medical history was significant for migraines, hypertension, and distal left cervical internal carotid artery spontaneous dissection that extended into the skull base. She described long-standing pulsatile tinnitus. Other vascular risk factors included a past history of tobacco use.

Abnormal Functional Connectivity Within Default Mode Network and Salience Network Related to Tinnitus Severity
ConclusionThe current study reveals that patients with moderate-to-severe tinnitus demonstrate greater changes in the central brain areas, including the auditory cortex, insula, parahippocampus and posterior cingulate gyrus. In addition, enhanced connections were found between the insula and the auditory cortex, as well as the posterior cingulate gyrus and the parahippocampus, which suggests abnormality in the auditory network, salience network, and default mode network. Specifically, the insula is the core region of the neural pathway that is composed of the auditory cortex, insula, and parahippocampus/posterior cingulate...

The Clinical Picture of Otosclerosis and the Surgery Effect on Bone Conduction Thresholds on Audiograms
AbstractOur study aims to illustrate the clinical picture of otosclerosis in patients and the effect of surgery on the bone conduction thresholds compared to audiometry tests before surgery. A retrospective study included 36 patients that fit the inclusion criteria based on the patient's files and Pure Tone Audiometry of the patients before and after surgery. The questionnaire used is attached at the end of the study. According to Our sample, 77.8% were females, and 22.2% were males. The youngest was 17  years old, the eldest was 61, and the mean age was 38.2 years old. Hearing loss was the most common symptom in 100% of...

Association of anatomical features of the petrotympanic fissure and presence of foramen of Huschke with otalgia and tinnitus
The petrotympanic fissure (PTF) and foramen of Huschke (FH) are anatomical structures in the temporal bone that can connect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the ear. The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the association between PTF morphology and otalgia and tinnitus, as well as the prevalence of the FH and otological symptoms, using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). CBCT images from 114 patients presenting with symptoms of a temporomandibular disorder were examined retrospectively.

Health-related quality of life in chronic otitis media-measurement methods and their application in surgical therapy
CONCLUSION: Hearing is the most important factor influencing HRQoL in COM. Surgical procedures usually result in a clinically relevant improvement in HRQoL in COM with or without cholesteatoma. However, if cholesteatoma is present, its extent does not correlate with HRQoL. While HRQoL plays a secondary role in establishment of the indication for surgical therapy in COM with cholesteatoma, it plays an important role in terms of relative surgical indications, e.g., a symptomatic open mastoid cavity after resection of the posterior canal wall. We encourage the regular use of disease-specific PROMs preoperatively as well as du...
