Cerebellar Atrophy in Childhood Arterial Ischemic Stroke: Acute Diffusion MRI Biomarkers Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Cerebellar atrophy can be demonstrated on MRI in childhood arterial ischemic stroke. Association with acute contralesional pontine DWI signal suggests early degeneration of corticopontocerebellar connections. The clinical significance of cerebellar atrophy in childhood stroke remains to be determined.

Noninvasive Cardiac Event Monitoring to Detect Atrial Fibrillation After Ischemic Stroke: A Randomized, Controlled Trial Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Routine noninvasive cardiac-event monitoring after acute stroke enhances detection of paroxysmal AF and early anticoagulation. Extended monitoring should be offered to all eligible patients soon after acute stroke. Guidelines on investigation for AF in stroke patients could be strengthened. The Association Between Stroke, Depression, and 5-Year Mortality Among Very Old People Brief Reports
Conclusions— A history of stroke was associated with increased mortality among very old people but only among those who were also depressed. Depression seemed to be underdiagnosed and undertreated.

Predictors of Stroke in Patients With Impaired Glucose Tolerance: Results From the Nateglinide and Valsartan in Impaired Glucose Tolerance Outcomes Research Trial Brief Reports
Conclusions— The most powerful predictors of stroke in patients with impaired glucose tolerance included a combination of established risk factors and novel variables, such as previous venous thromboembolism and elevated waist circumference, allowing moderately effective identification of high-risk individuals.

Genome-Wide Analysis of Blood Pressure Variability and Ischemic Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— We identified a cluster of single nucleotide polymorphisms at the NLGN1 locus showing significant association with BP variability. Follow-up analyses did not support an association with risk of ischemic stroke and its subtypes.

Lesion Location Predicts Transient and Extended Risk of Aspiration After Supratentorial Ischemic Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Lesions of the insular cortex and the internal capsule are significantly associated with acute risk of aspiration after stroke. Combined ischemic infarctions of the frontal operculum and the insular cortex are likely to cause extended risk of aspiration in stroke patients, whereas risk of aspiration tends to be transient in subcortical stroke.

Reduction in Early Stroke Risk in Carotid Stenosis With Transient Ischemic Attack Associated With Statin Treatment Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In acute symptomatic carotid stenosis, statin pretreatment was associated with reduced stroke risk, consistent with findings from randomized trials in acute coronary syndromes. These data support the hypothesis that statins started acutely after TIA symptom onset may also be beneficial to prevent early stroke. Randomized trials addressing this question are required.
