Evaluation of a new radiochromic film dosimeter, Gafchomic EBT4, for VMAT, SABR and HDR treatment delivery verification
Phys Med Biol. 2023 Jul 27. doi: 10.1088/1361-6560/aceb48. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTObjective
To evaluate a new film for radiotherapy dosimetry, Gafchromic EBT4, compared to the current EBT3. To evaluate dose-response and verify test cases in MV external beam and HDR brachytherapy.
Approach
Three lots (batches) of EBT4 and three lots of EBT3 films were calibrated at 6 MV over 0 to 1200 cGy range, using FilmQAPro software. Signal-to-noise of pixel value, reported dose, and factors affecting dosimetry accuracy were evaluated (rotation of the film at scanning, energy response and post-exposure dar...

Reirradiation of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas: a pragmatic approach, part II: radiation technique and fractionations
ConclusionDifferent radiation techniques and fractionations can be used for a second course of radiotherapy in patients with recurrent/second primary tumor of head and neck region. Tumor characteristics as well as radiobiological considerations should be take into account to define the best reRT approach.

Prospective randomised phase II trial evaluating adjuvant pelvic radiotherapy using either IMRT or 3-Dimensional planning for endometrial cancer
CONCLUSION: Although IMRT can reduce dose to normal tissue, in this study no benefit in acute GI or GU toxicity outcome was seen.PMID:37493622 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2238555

A linear optimization model for high dose rate brachytherapy using a novel distance metric
Conclusions: The proposed linear network-based optimization model efficiently generates more homogeneous high quality treatment plans for HDR-BT.PMID:37489861 | DOI:10.1088/1361-6560/acea55

Molecular Classification Predicts Response to Radiotherapy in the Randomized PORTEC-1 and PORTEC-2 Trials for Early-Stage Endometrioid Endometrial Cancer
CONCLUSION: The molecular classification of EC predicts response to radiotherapy in stage I EEC and may guide adjuvant treatment decisions. Omitting radiotherapy seems to be safe in POLEmut EC. The benefit of radiotherapy seems to be limited in MMRd EC. EBRT yields a significantly better locoregional recurrence-free survival than VBT or no adjuvant therapy in p53abn EC. VBT is the treatment of choice for NSMP EC as it is as effective as EBRT and significantly better than no adjuvant therapy for locoregional tumor control.PMID:37487144 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.23.00062

MR-guided HDR prostate brachytherapy with teleoperated steerable needles
J Robot Surg. 2023 Jul 22. doi: 10.1007/s11701-023-01676-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConformity of tumour volumes and dose plans in prostate brachytherapy (BT) can be constrained by unwanted needle deflections, needle access restrictions and visualisation limitations. This work validates the feasibility of teleoperated robotic control of an active steerable needle using magnetic resonance (MR) for guidance. With this system, perturbations can be counteracted and critical structures can be circumvented to access currently inaccessible areas. The system comprises of (1) a novel steerable needle, (2) the minimally invasi...

Argon plasma coagulation therapy in hemorrhagic radiation proctitis following pelvic radiation in gynecological malignancies
CONCLUSIONS: APC is an effective, safe, and well-tolerated treatment for rectal bleeding caused by chronic radiation proctitis. It should be considered as a first-line therapy for radiation proctitis.PMID:37470598 | DOI:10.4103/jcrt.JCRT_1364_21
