Long-Term outcomes of Ultra-Hypofractionated 2 Fractions single day HDR Brachytherapy in Localized Prostate Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with favorable localized prostate cancer, 2 fractions HDR-BT monotherapy is a highly curative radiation technique that attains PSA nadir levels <0.2 ng/mL in 95% of cases.PMID:37437606 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109807

Treatment of Keloids with Surgery and Immediate Postoperative Radiotherapy: Knowledge Gained Over 17 Years
Conclusion Treating the vexing problem of keloids with surgery and immediate postoperative radiotherapy is safe and effective. We recommend that this be adopted as the standard treatment in keloid management.PMID:37435336 | PMC:PMC10332905 | DOI:10.1055/s-0043-1761599

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 3594: Chemoradiotherapy Combined with Brachytherapy for the Definitive Treatment of Esophageal Carcinoma
This study aims to investigate the effect of dose escalation with brachytherapy (BT) as an addition to definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on local control and survival in esophageal cancer. From 2001 to 2020, 183 patients with locally limited or locally advanced esophageal cancer received definitive CRT with or without brachytherapy in a two-center study. External-beam radiotherapy was delivered at 50.4 Gy in 1.8 Gy daily fractions, followed by a sequential boost to the primary tumor of 9 Gy in 1.8 Gy daily fractions if indicated. Intraluminal high dose rate (HDR) Ir-192 brachytherapy was performed on 71 patients at 10 Gy ...

Stereotactic Therapies for Meningiomas
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1416:107-119. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-29750-2_9.ABSTRACTAlthough surgery remains the mainstay of treatment for most meningiomas, radiotherapy, specifically stereotactic radiosurgery, has become more commonplace as first-line therapy for select meningioma cases, particularly small meningiomas in challenging or high-risk anatomic locations. Radiosurgery for specific groups of meningiomas have been found to provide local control rates comparable to surgery alone. In this chapter stereotactic techniques for the treatment of meningiomas such as stereotactic radiosurgery by using Gamma knife or Linear Accel...

Prostate segmentation accuracy using synthetic MRI for high-dose-rate prostate brachytherapy treatment planning
Phys Med Biol. 2023 Jul 11. doi: 10.1088/1361-6560/ace674. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBoth CT and MRI images are acquired for HDR prostate brachytherapy patients at our institution. CT is used to identify catheters and MRI is used to segment the prostate. To address scenarios of limited MRI access, we developed a novel Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) to generate synthetic MRI (sMRI) from CT with sufficient soft-tissue contrast to provide accurate prostate segmentation without MRI (rMRI).Approach: Our hybrid GAN, PxCGAN was trained utilizing 58 paired CT-MRI datasets from our HDR prostate patients. Using 20...

Clinical characteristics of secondary bladder cancer developing after low-/high-dose-rate brachytherapy to treat localized prostate cancer
CONCLUSION: The risk for secondary bladder cancer was not significantly increased after brachytherapy compared to non-irradiation therapy. However, brachytherapy patients exhibited a higher incidence of invasive bladder cancer. Therefore, meticulous follow-up is crucial for early detection and treatment of bladder cancer in such patients.PMID:37432614 | DOI:10.1007/s10147-023-02383-1

Radiotherapy Sensitization With Ultrasound-Stimulated Intravenously Injected Oxygen Microbubbles Can Have Contrary Effects Depending on the Study Model
We are writing to share our collective experience over the last few years working on radiosensitization strategies using intravenously administered, ultrasound-stimulated, oxygen microbubbles. There has been considerable pre-clinical success reported to date, including from our own groups, using oxygen microbubbles as a cancer theranostic agent to improve radiotherapy, sonodynamic therapy and brachytherapy treatments [1 –4]. However, we have recently come across several unexpected findings that warrant further study and caution as these techniques move toward translation.
