Therefore, in the main analysis we examined relationships among child body shame, child perfectionism, child body dissatisfaction, parent body shame, parent perfectionism, and parent body dissatisfaction. In our main hypothesis we assumed that higher levels of the abovementioned parent functioning-related variables would be associated with higher child body shame after accounting for the effects of the foregoing child functioning-related variables. The analysis finally included comple...

Traditional, religious, and cultural perspectives on mental illness: a qualitative study on causal beliefs and treatment use
CONCLUSION: Traditional/alternative treatments play an important role in meeting the need for mental health treatment. The findings are relevant for mental health nurses who provide direct to their patients, and for other areas of mental health practice. We also found a lack of knowledge about the causes of mental illness among patients and families. Education should be at the heart of mental health promotion to raise the level of mental health literacy in Indonesia.PMID:36097886 | DOI:10.1080/17482631.2022.2123090

Expresivism and the Reliability Challenge
AbstractSuppose that there are objective normative facts and our beliefs about such facts are by-and-large true. How did this come to happen? This is the reliability challenge to normative realism. As has been recently noted, the challenge also applies to expressivist “quasi-realism”. I argue that expressivism is useful in the face of this challenge, in a way that has not been yet properly articulated. In dealing with epistemological issues, quasi-realists typically invoke the desire-like nature of normative judgments. However, this is not enough to prevent t he reliability challenge from arising, given that quasi-real...

Teens Today Are Having Sex, Dating and Drinking Less Than They Used To
Contrary to popular belief, today’s kids are not growing up too fast. According to a new study published in the journal Child Development, they’re growing up slower than they used to. The researchers analyzed survey responses from 8.3 million adolescents, ages 13 to 19, from across the country over the last 40 years (1976 to 2016). They found that today’s youths, compared to those in previous decades, are less likely to engage in adult activities, including drinking alcohol, dating, having sex, going out without their parents, driving a car and working a job. Today, the researchers say, 18-year-olds act m...

A Transgender Teen Was Murdered and Burned. It ’s Not Considered a Hate Crime
(HOUSTON, Mo.) — Authorities say her eyes were gouged out and her genitals stabbed, but that the death of transgender teenager whose burned remains were found near the mobile home of one of her alleged killers in rural southern Missouri, her bones discarded in a chicken coop, was not a hate crime. The remains of Joseph Matthew Steinfeld Jr. — the birth name of the 17-year-old transgender girl who went by the name Ally Lee Steinfeld — were found last week in the town of Cabool. Twenty-four-year-old Briana Calderas and two 18-year-olds, Andrew Vrba and Isis Schauer, were charged with first-degree murder and...
