Recognising socio-cultural barriers while seeking early detection services for breast cancer: a study from a Universal Health Coverage setting in India
Breast cancer is the commonest cancer among women in India, yet the uptake of early detection programs is poor. This leads to late presentation, advanced stage at the time of diagnosis, and high mortality. Poo...

Integrative dissection of 5-hydroxytryptamine receptors-related signature in the prognosis and immune microenvironment of breast cancer
ConclusionsThe HTR2A/2B risk signature not only highlights the significance of HTRs in breast cancer prognosis by modulating cancer immune microenvironment, but also provides a novel gene-testing tool for early prevention of depression in breast cancer patients and lead to an improved prognosis and quality of life.

Pretreatment 18F ‐FDG uptake heterogeneity may predict treatment outcome of combined Trastuzumab and Pertuzumab therapy in patients with metastatic HER2 positive breast cancer
Intra-tumoral heterogeneity of 18F ‐fluorodeoxyglucose (18F‐FDG) uptake has been proven to be a surrogate marker for predicting treatment outcome in various tumors. However, the value of intra-tumoral heterogeneit...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4637: Integrated Multi-Omics Profiling of Young Breast Cancer Patients Reveals a Correlation between Galactose Metabolism Pathway and Poor Disease-Free Survival
Xin Hu In recent years, there has been a notable rise in the incidence of breast cancer among young patients, who exhibit worse survival outcomes and distinct characteristics compared to intermediate and elderly patients. Therefore, it is imperative to identify the specific features unique to young patients, which could offer insights into potential therapeutic strategies and improving survival outcomes. In our study, we performed an integrative analysis of bulk transcriptional and genomic data from extensive clinical cohorts to identify the prognostic factotrs. Additionally, we analyzed the single-cell transcriptio...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4630: Social Determinants of Health Data Improve the Prediction of Cardiac Outcomes in Females with Breast Cancer
This study included females ≥ 18 years diagnosed with BC at any stage. The outcomes were the diagnosis and time-to-event of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) within two years following a cancer diagnosis. Covariates encompassed demographics, risk factors, individual and neighborhood-level SDOH, tumor characteristics, and BC treatment. Race-specific and race-agnostic Extreme Gradient Boosting ML models with and without SDOH data were developed and compared based on their C-index. Among 4309 patients, 11.4% experienced a 2-year MACE. The race-agnostic models exhibited a C-index of 0.78 (95% CI 0.76&a...

The Beta2-adrenergic agonist salbutamol synergizes with paclitaxel on cell proliferation and tumor growth in triple negative breast cancer models
ConclusionWhile the effect of salbutamol was mainly on cell proliferation, suboptimal concentrations of paclitaxel provoked a very important enhancement of apoptosis. The latter enhanced transporter proteins as MDR1, whose expression were diminished by salbutamol. The expression of ADRB2 should be assessed in the biopsy or tumor to eventually select patients that could benefit from salbutamol repurposing.

Diagnostic performance of screening mammography according to menstrual cycle among Asian women
ConclusionScreening mammography tended to show a higher performance during week 1 and a lower performance during week 4 of the menstrual cycle among Asian women. These results emphasize the importance of timing recommendations that consider menstrual cycles to optimize the effectiveness of screening mammography for breast cancer detection.

Exploring the presence of bovine leukemia virus among breast cancer tumors in a rural state
ConclusionWe did not find BLV DNA in fresh-frozen breast cancer tumors from patients presenting to a hospital in Vermont. Our findings suggest a low prevalence of BLV in our patient population and a need to reevaluate the association between BLV and human breast cancer.

Self-reported barriers to screening breast MRI among women at high risk for breast cancer
ConclusionsHigh-risk women reported low uptake of screening breast MRI, indicating a gap in guideline-concordant care. Breast cancer knowledge and screening-supportive social norms are two key areas to target in future interventions. Data were collected during the COVID-19 pandemic and generalizability of results is unclear. Future studies with larger, more heterogeneous samples are needed to replicate these findings.
