Research of Pesticide Metabolites in Human Brain Tumor Tissues by Chemometrics-Based Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Analysis for a Hypothetical Correlation between Pesticide Exposure and Risk Factor of Central Nervous System Tumors
ACS Omega. 2023 Aug 3;8(32):29812-29835. doi: 10.1021/acsomega.3c04592. eCollection 2023 Aug 15.ABSTRACTPesticides are widely used, resulting in continuing human exposure with potential health impacts. Some exposures related to agricultural works have been associated with neurological disorders. Since the 2000s, the hypothesis of the role of pesticides in the occurrence of central nervous system (CNS) tumors has been better documented in the literature. However, the etiology of childhood brain cancers still remains largely unknown. The major objective of this work was to assess the potential role of pesticide exposure as a...

A novel stop-gain < em > NF1 < /em > variant in neurofibromatosis type 1 and bilateral optic atrophy without optic gliomas
CONCLUSIONS: A patient with NF1 without OPGs developed bilateral optic atrophy and carried a novel de novo stop-gain variant of NF1. Although the relationship between NF1 variants and bilateral optic atrophy remains unclear, further investigations are required.PMID:37599594 | DOI:10.1080/13816810.2023.2245464

A rare presentation of Maffucci syndrome: A case report and literature review
Exp Ther Med. 2023 Jul 25;26(3):435. doi: 10.3892/etm.2023.12134. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTMaffucci syndrome is an extremely rare disease which can manifest symptoms as early as childhood. It is estimated that there have been <300 cases reported globally; however, this number is likely to be an underestimate. Maffucci syndrome is characterized by multiple enchondromas and soft tissue hemangiomas, which can cause growth and developmental malformations. In addition to bone deformities, pathological fractures and a loss of mobility, patients with Maffucci syndrome may develop secondary central chondrosarcoma and have a...

Therapeutic HDAC inhibition in hypermutant diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma
Neoplasia. 2023 Aug 19;43:100921. doi: 10.1016/j.neo.2023.100921. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConstitutional mismatch repair deficiency (CMMRD) is a cancer predisposition syndrome associated with the development of hypermutant pediatric high-grade glioma, and confers a poor prognosis. While therapeutic histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) has been reported; here, we use a clinically relevant biopsy-derived hypermutant DIPG model (PBT-24FH) and a CRISPR-Cas9 induced genetic model to evaluate the efficacy of HDAC inhibition against hypermutant DIPG. We screened PBT-24FH cells for...

Overall survival prediction for high-grade glioma patients using mathematical modeling of tumor cell infiltration
CONCLUSION: The simulated tumor cell invasion is a stronger predictor of overall survival than the segmented GTV, indicating the importance of using mathematical models for cell invasion to assist in the definition of the target for HGG patients.PMID:37603907 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejmp.2023.102669
