Construction of a prognostic model for lung adenocarcinoma based on heat shock protein-related genes and immune analysis
Cell Stress Chaperones. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1007/s12192-023-01374-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) represents a prevalent form of cancer, with low early diagnosis rates and high mortality rates, posing a global health challenge. Heat shock proteins (HSPs) assume a crucial role within the tumor immune microenvironment (TME) of LUAD. Here, a collection of 97 HSP-related genes (HSPGs) was assembled based on prior literature reports, of which 36 HSPGs were differentially expressed in LUAD. In The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort, we constructed a prognostic model for risk stratification and prognos...

Preparation of some new pyrazolo1,5-apyrimidines and evaluation of their antioxidant, antibacterial (MIC and ZOI) activities, and cytotoxic effect on MCF-7 cell line
This study aims to synthesize some novel pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine derivatives, and investigate their biological activities. These compounds exhibited good to high antioxidant activities [2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capabilities]. Among them, Ethyl 5-(2-ethoxy-2-oxoethyl)-7-hydroxy-2-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carboxylate (3h) showed the highest antioxidant activity [Half-maximal Inhibitory Concentration (IC50)= 15.34 μM] compared to ascorbic acid (IC50= 13.53 μM) as a standard compound. Their antibacterial activities were investigated against two Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtil...

Integrated transcriptome and proteome analysis indicates potential biomarkers of prostate cancer in offspring of pregnant rats exposed to a phthalate mixture during gestation and lactation
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 8:140020. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140020. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs the second leading cause of death for cancer among men worldwide, prostate cancer (PCa) prevention and detection remain a critical challenge. One aspect of PCa research is the identification of common environmental agents that may increase the risk of initiation and progression of PCa. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are strong candidates for risk factors, partially because they alter essential pathways for prostate gland development and oncogenesis. Phthalates correspond to a set of commercially used plasticizers...

Machine-Learning-Aided Prediction of Brain Metastases Development in Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancers
CONCLUSION: Analysis of the importance of input features suggests that the models are learning the relevant relationships between clinical features/development of BM. A higher number of samples is to be prioritized to improve performance. Employed prospectively at initial diagnosis, such models can help select high-risk subgroups for surveillance brain MRI.PMID:37689579 | DOI:10.1016/j.cllc.2023.08.002

Immunohistochemical Expression of Upregulated Gene 4 Protein Expression (URG4/URGCP) and Its Association with 5-Year Survival in Patients with Colon Adenocarcinoma
Conclusions: High immunohistochemical expression of URG4 correlates with poor prognosis in patients with colon adenocarcinoma.PMID:37685545 | DOI:10.3390/jcm12175477

Older Adult Woman in a Coma After Acute Laryngitis
Chest. 2023 Sep;164(3):e65-e69. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.04.038.ABSTRACTA 72-year-old woman with a history of adenocarcinoma of the lung, for which she was receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy with osimertinib, was admitted to the ED because of clinical deterioration with extreme fatigue and fever. She was already receiving antibiotic therapy initiated by her general practitioner because of symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection. She was febrile (38.5 °C) with normal laboratory values except for leukocytosis and elevated C-reactive protein. She was hospitalized because of profound general malaise. On the...
