Genetics-based risk scores for prediction of premature coronary artery disease
Indian Heart J. 2023 Aug 24:S0019-4832(23)00137-2. doi: 10.1016/j.ihj.2023.08.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPremature coronary artery disease(CAD) is endemic in India. Global Burden of Diseases study has reported that it led to 286,000 deaths in 2019 in India. Many of these patients have standard risk factors but a third have none. Clinical risk algorithms and imaging provide limited risk information in premature CAD. CAD is multifactorial and studies have now focused on the predictive capability of clusters of genes and single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) using gene risk score(GRS). Older studies combined data from...

Weathering alters the profile of trace metals and organic compounds in leachates and bioavailability extracts from microplastics of trail running shoes
In this study, we characterised changes in the surface morphology, functional groups, and thermal stability of MPs weathered on and below the soil surface over 12 weeks, and analysed inorganic and organic additives in leachates (0.01M CaCl2) and bioaccessibility extracts (ethyl acetate). Weathering conditions included UVC irradiation at 25 °C and 80% soil moisture. Microplastics on the soil surface exhibited cracking, fragmentation, and increased extractability of zinc, sulphur, titanium and fatty acids. Microplastics below the soil surface were not significantly physically or chemically altered, however zinc leachability...

Accuracy of Diagnostic Tests for Detecting < em > Schistosoma mansoni < /em > and < em > S. haematobium < /em > in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: The effort of schistosomiasis elimination requires accurate case identification especially in low-intensity infections. This study showed that CCA had the highest sensitivity and moderate specificity for the diagnosis of S. mansoni. Similarly, the sensitivity of ELISA was excellent, but its specificity was low. The diagnostic accuracy of PCR for the detection of S. haematobium was excellent compared to urine microscopic examination.PMID:37621699 | PMC:PMC10447154 | DOI:10.1155/2023/3769931

The chemical composition of the aerial parts essential oil of < em > Stachys ocymastrum < /em > L. Briq. (Lamiaceae) growing in Sicily (Italy)
Nat Prod Res. 2023 Aug 25:1-7. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2023.2250515. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe genus Stachys L. (Lamiaceae) comprises more than 300 species as annual or perennial herbs or small shrubs, spread in temperate regions of Mediterranean, Asia, America, and Southern Africa. Several species have been used in the traditional medicine to treat stress, skin inflammations, gastrointestinal disorders, asthma, and genital tumours. In the present study the chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of Stachys ocymastrum L. Briq., belonging to section Olisia, endemic of the Western Mediterranean and ...

Impact of frequency and duration of freeze-dried inactivated tissue culture hepatitis A vaccine (Aimmugen ®) vaccination on antibody titers; a japanese cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Three doses of Aimmugen® are efficacious, but four or more doses induce more robust and sustained antibody production. Additionally, four or more doses may be effective when there is a need to ensure long-term immunity or risk of prolonged exposure.PMID:37620202 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.08.030

Genomic Characteristics of Emerging Intraerythrocytic Anaplasma capra and High Prevalence in Goats, China
We describe whole-genome sequences of 2 A. capra strains from metagenomic sequencing of purified erythrocytes from infected goats in China. The genome of A. capra was the smallest among members of the genus Anaplasma. The genomes of the 2 A. capra strains contained comparable G+C content and numbers of pseudogenes with intraerythrocytic Anaplasma species. The 2 A. capra strains had 54 unique genes. The prevalence of A. capra was high among goats in the 2 endemic areas. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that the A. capra strains detected in this study were basically classified into 2 subclusters with those previously detected ...
