Viral Hepatitis in Pregnancy: ACOG Clinical Practice Guideline No. 6
Obstet Gynecol. 2023 Sep 1;142(3):745-759. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005300.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: The purpose of this document is to describe the specific types of viral hepatitis, their implications during pregnancy, the risk of perinatal transmission, and issues related to both treatment and prevention of infection.TARGET POPULATION: Pregnant or postpartum women and individuals who screen positive for viral hepatitis infection. The onset of these conditions may have predated the perinatal period or may have occurred for the first time in pregnancy or the first year postpartum.METHODS: This guideline was developed using an a ...

Optimization of a rapid and sensitive nucleic acid lateral flow biosensor for hepatitis B virus detection
CONCLUSION: In resource-limited settings, the LAMP-LF assay presents a promising solution for HBV testing. However, it is important to note that direct amplification without DNA purification may diminish the performance of the approach.PMID:37592176 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-023-08730-9

Assessment of histologic risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with chronic hepatitis B of advanced stage
In conclusion, extensive immunopositivity of hepatocytes for EpCAM in chronic hepatitis B may represent a marker of increased hepatocellular carcinoma risk. Glutamine synthetase immunostaining represents a useful adjunct in determining the stage of chronic hepatitis B in diagnostic practice.PMID:37586217 | DOI:10.1016/j.prp.2023.154741

Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence or Antagonist-II Versus Alpha-Fetoprotein in the Diagnosis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: This study reveals that PIVKA-II is a promising biomarker for identifying and tracking HCC, exhibiting greater accuracy than AFP. Our findings indicate that PIVKA-II outperforms AFP in detecting HCC across diverse racial groups and sample sizes, as well as in cases of HBV-related, HCV-related, or mixed-etiology HCC.PMID:37575350 | PMC:PMC10416192 | DOI:10.14740/jocmr4951

Antioxidants and Calcium Modulators Preclude in Vitro Hepatitis B Virus-Induced Mitochondrial Damage
CONCLUSIONS: Current study indicates that the mitochondrial fragmentation induced by hepatitis B virus infection can be reduced after antioxidant treatment pointing toward exploring better drug targets for the prevention of hepatitis B virus-induced mitochondrial frag- mentation and associated liver damage.PMID:37565795 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.21290

Direct and crowding-out effects of a Hepatitis B vaccination campaign
Econ Hum Biol. 2023 Jul 23;51:101279. doi: 10.1016/j.ehb.2023.101279. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe evaluate the direct and spillover causal effects of a Hepatitis B (HB) vaccination campaign in French schools on the vaccination adherence of the targeted pupils. Using a regression discontinuity design, we show that this campaign created an exogenous shock on vaccination behavior, increasing the HB vaccination rate for children aged 11 and above. At the same time, we show a drop in the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination rate of the targeted pupils and an increase in the parental belief that measles is a benign...
