Liver Transplant After Severe Liver Trauma: The First Report in a Korean Adult
Exp Clin Transplant. 2023 Jul;21(7):619-622. doi: 10.6002/ect.2023.0144.ABSTRACTFollowing a motor-vehicle accident, a 57-year-old man was diagnosed with a grade 4 liver injury (American Association for the Surgery of Trauma organ injury scale) with multiple contrast extravasations. He initially underwent nonoperative management, which included transcatheter arterial embolization. However, he experienced a hemorrhage after the first embo-lization procedure, and so the procedure was repeated. Thereafter, he was diagnosed with liver failure based on findings from computed tomography and liver function tests. On day 28 of hosp...

Bezoar at Jejunojejunostomy Following Liver Transplant: A Case Report
We report a case of late small bowel obstruction secondary to an impacted bezoar that formed at a patulous jejunojejunostomy portion of the biliary-enteric anastomosis. The patient was a 26-year-old male patient, who underwent deceased donor whole liver transplant for pediatric acute liver failure. Prior to his presentation to our institution with 2 days of abdominal pain, nausea, persistent burping, and intermittent vomiting, the patient reported an uneventful posttransplant course and was followed up at the institution where his transplant was performed. There were no reported changes in diet or lifestyle and no similar ...

Liver Transplant for Patients With Neuroendocrine Tumor: A Report of 2 Exceptional Cases and Literature Review
Exp Clin Transplant. 2023 Jul;21(7):578-585. doi: 10.6002/ect.2023.0110.ABSTRACTPatients with neuroendocrine tumors with unresec-table liver involvement can benefit from liver transplant. There is a specific set of guidelines for neuroendocrine tumors with liver metastasis that involve less than 50% of the liver. However, beyond those guidelines, there are reports of exceptional criteria patients who benefited from liver transplant. Here, we present 2 unusual cases of patients with exceptional circumstances and with neuroendocrine tumors who underwent liver transplant. The first case describes a patient with an extremely r...

Volumetric Graft Changes After Liver Transplantation - Evidence of Adaptation to Recipient Body Size
CONCLUSIONS: Grafts with initial GV/SLV-ratio<0.6 adapt towards the ideal volume for recipient body size one year after transplantation. The disparity between graft size relative to recipient body size, and the portal and arterial perfusion, influence volumetric graft changes.PMID:37581219 | DOI:10.1152/ajpgi.00040.2023

Free-Circulating Nucleic Acids as Biomarkers in Patients After Solid Organ Transplantation
Ann Transplant. 2023 Aug 15;28:e939750. doi: 10.12659/AOT.939750.ABSTRACTA number types of extracellular DNA (eg, cell-free, cfDNA) circulate in human blood, including mitochondrial, transcriptome, and regulatory DNA, usually at low concentrations. Larger amounts of cfDNA appear in any inflammatory condition, including organ damage due to a variety of reasons. The role of cfDNA in solid organ transplantation is discussed in this review as a valuable additional tool in the standard of care of transplant patients. Post-transplant monitoring requires the use of high-quality biomarkers for early detection of graft damage or re...
