A Rare Case of Vasospasm Presenting with Acute Coronary Syndrome and Leading to Total Occlusion
Turk Kardiyol Dern Ars. 2023 Sep;51(6):415-418. doi: 10.5543/tkda.2023.73858.ABSTRACTCoronary vasospasm is characterized by transient and reversible vasoconstriction that can cause myocardial ischemia. Patients with acute coronary syndrome may present to the emergency department with various clinical features, including mortal arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Coronary angiography was performed in a 61-year-old male patient with the diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome due to recurrent angina attacks and dynamic changes in electrocardiography. In the patient whose critical stenosis was not detected in the first imaging, ang...

Thyroid Functions Are Associated with All-Cause Long-Term Mortality in Elderly Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
CONCLUSION: In our study, subclinical values in thyroid functions were found to be associated with increased mortality, apart from known factors in elderly patients who underwent primary PTCA with the diagnosis of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.PMID:37671518 | DOI:10.5543/tkda.2023.53389

Predictive performance of CHA2DS2-VASc-HS score and Framingham risk scores for coronary disease severity in ischemic heart disease patients with invasive coronary angiography
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated a high predictive performance of coronary artery injury using the CHA2DS2-VASc-HS score and Framingham risk scores. These scores could be applied in predicting ischemic heart disease in non-symptomatic cases where invasive coronary angiography is not indicated.GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT: https://www.europeanreview.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/Graphical-abstract-4.jpg.PMID:37667940 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33415

Effect of sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors on coronary blood flow in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
CONCLUSIONS: We have demonstrated that the use of SGLT-2is improves coronary artery blood flow in patients with T2DM who have normal or nearly normal coronary angiography.PMID:37667939 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33414

Acute myocardial infarction patients without COVID-19 manifestations in the pandemic may have high thrombus burden
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates an increased thrombus burden in STEMI patients without clinical manifestation of COVID-19 during the pandemic compared with the same time period in the previous year.PMID:37669737 | DOI:10.24875/ACM.21000327

Abnormal aortic origin of coronary arteries
CONCLUSIONS: The under diagnosis by TTE of coronary artery abnormalities may be due to the difficulty of visualization that is accentuated with age. Their detection is crucial because they can both, lead to sudden death associated with an intramural and/or interarterial pathway and complicate an interventional procedure on the interatrial septum or within the mitral, pulmonary and/or aortic rings.PMID:37669688 | DOI:10.24875/ACM.22000136

A man in his sixties with acute chest pain
We present a case where the patient himself had made a correct non-cardiac diagnosis, but this was initially overlooked by the doctor.CASE PRESENTATION: A man with a history of cardiac infarction was admitted with acute chest pain and troponin elevation. Electrocardiogram suggested ST elevations, echocardiography showed a possible slight hypokinesia, and we primarily suspected an acute coronary syndrome. However, invasive coronary angiography was negative and a primary acute myocardial infarction was less likely. A renewed interview revealed that the patient had worked with a propane burner indoors without adequate ventila...
