Does the type of craniomaxillofacial fracture (CMF) differ between patients with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and those with blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI)? A retrospective study
J Craniomaxillofac Surg. 2023 Aug 16:S1010-5182(23)00149-X. doi: 10.1016/j.jcms.2023.08.015. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of the present study was to investigate and compare craniomaxillofacial fracture (CMF) type in patients with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) versus blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI). A retrospective cohort study was performed. The predictor variables were the types of CMF. The primary outcomes variables were ICH and BCVI. Secondary outcomes were death and survival with or without neurological sequelae. Descriptive, bivariate, and multiple logistic regression statistics were computed, and th...

Clinical and Vessel Characteristics Associated With Hard Outcomes After PCI and Their Combined Prognostic Implications
Conclusions In patients undergoing drug-eluting stent implantation, adverse clinical and vessel characteristics were associated with the risk of cardiac death or target-vessel myocardial infarction. Because these characteristics showed independent and additive prognostic value, their integrative assessment can optimize post-PCI risk stratification. Creating Virtual Models and 3D Movies Using DemoMaker for Anatomical Education
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1431:161-175. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-36727-4_8.ABSTRACTThree-dimensional (3D) anatomy models have been used for education in health professional schools globally. Virtual technology has become more popular for online teaching since the COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter will describe a project in which a series of virtual anatomical models of organs and structures were developed for educational purposes, and it will describe in detail how to build three-dimensional (3D) movies using DemoMaker. Although setting up the 3D system was complicated and challenging, the process of reconstructing 3D models from...

Stroke imaging modality for endovascular therapy in the extended window: systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Our study suggests that, in anterior circulation LVO, the rates of functional independence may be similar when patients are selected using ADVI or NCCT for EVT in the extended time window. A simplified triage protocol does not seem to increase mortality or sICH. Protocol registration number (PROSPERO ID: CRD42021236092).

Uterine venous malformations in the puerperium: 2 Atypical cases and literature review
We present two cases of AVMs developing in the puerperium, both with a vaginal delivery and spontaneous and complete secondment. The symptom of onset was an episode of bright red blood loss in the puerperium, on the 14th and 21st postpartum days, respectively. Transvaginal ultrasound showed a hypervascularized lesion in the myometrium with turbulent vascular flow, confirmed by transabdominal ultrasound and angiography. To date, there are no guidelines on the management of MAVs. In our cases we opted for a conservative approach, in order to preserve the fertility of the patient. These experiences reported have the purpose o...

Giant Sinoatrial Nodal Artery Aneurysm with Fistula into the Right Atrium Treated by Partial Resection and Plication: A Case Report
We describe a 40-year-old South Asian woman presenting with mild dyspnea on exertion of 1 year's duration. Echocardiography showed a 60×60 mm cystic sac, subsequently confirmed by computerized tomography, which showed 3 large aneurysms (70×61 mm) and 3 small aneurysms in the SNA. Coronary angiography illustrated that the SNA branched off the left main coronary artery, and the aneurysm communicated with the right coronary artery. The aneurysm was partially resected and plicated.PMID:37637275 | PMC:PMC10459341 | DOI:10.18502/jthc.v18i2.13325

Association of Soluble Markers of Inflammation With Peri-coronary Artery Inflammation in People With and Without HIV Infection and Without Cardiovascular Disease
CONCLUSIONS: The associations between indices of systemic and peri-coronary inflammation are novel and suggest that these systemic markers and FAI together are promising noninvasive biomarkers that can be applied to assess asymptomatic CVD in people with and without HIV; they also may be useful tools to evaluate effects of anti-inflammatory interventions.PMID:37636516 | PMC:PMC10460251 | DOI:10.1093/ofid/ofad328

Ludwig's angina and acute myocardial infarction: A case report
Clin Case Rep. 2023 Aug 24;11(9):e7832. doi: 10.1002/ccr3.7832. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTLudwig's angina was first described in 1839 by German physician, Wilhelm Frederick Von Ludwig as a rapidly and fatal progressive gangrenous cellulitis and edema of the soft tissues of the neck and floor of the mouth with rapid spread to other places like anterior mediastinum. However, Type 2 acute myocardial infarction (MI) due to Ludwig's angina has not been documented. A 62-year-old male presented to the emergency department with visible anterior neck swelling for 1 week, which was preceded by a tooth arch 1 week prior, the patie...

The value of sonographic microvascular imaging in the diagnosis of lipedema
CONCLUSIONS: Here we show that UMA imaging characterizes the subcutaneous microvasculature with an unprecedented accuracy. The method has the advantage of being sensitive to small, slow-flowing vessels. This allows for the assessment of the course of vessels and vascular pathologies in great detail. Thus, UMA as a non-invasive diagnostic method can improve diagnostic accuracy in lipedema.PMID:37638423 | DOI:10.3233/CH-238103
