Simvastatin, but Not Atorvastatin, Is Associated with Higher Peak Rivaroxaban Serum Levels and Bleeding: an Asian Cohort Study from Singapore
ConclusionOur findings suggest that concomitant use of simvastatin with rivaroxaban may be associated with bleeding events in an Asian cohort. Further studies using physiologically based pharmacokinetic modelling are required to investigate the drug-drug interactions between these drugs.

A Selection of Mechanisms Relevant to Atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is the growth of fatty lesions in blood vessel walls, leading eventually to a rupture and blockage to cause a heart attack or stroke, and along the way causing narrowing of blood vessels sufficient to lead to heart failure and dysfunction elsewhere in the body as the supply of blood to tissues is reduced. Today's paper on this topic is a little disorganized, something of a random assembly of thoughts on mechanisms relevant to the development of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is the single largest cause of human mortality, and attempts to treat contributing mechanisms have so far not stopped it from being ...

Post-Stroke Lateropulsion: Resolution and Function After Discharge From Inpatient Rehabilitation - A Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Lateropulsion can continue to resolve after discharge from inpatient rehabilitation. Larger cohort studies are needed to further explore associations between persistent lateropulsion and long-term outcomes.PMID:37736404 | PMC:PMC10510537 | DOI:10.3138/ptc-2021-0078

PPP1R12C Promotes Atrial Hypocontractility in Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with AF exhibit increased levels of PPP1R12C protein compared with controls. PPP1R12C overexpression in mice increases PP1c targeting to MLC2a and causes MLC2a dephosphorylation, which reduces atrial contractility and increases AF inducibility. These findings suggest that PP1 regulation of sarcomere function at MLC2a is a key determinant of atrial contractility in AF.PMID:37737016 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.123.322516

The prevalence and prognosis of asymptomatic intracranial atherosclerosis in a community-based population: Results based on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSIONS: We found that ICAD detected using HR-MRI increases the long-term risk of a first-ever ischemic stroke in a stroke-free population, suggesting that the current primary prevention protocol of stroke awaits further optimization.PMID:37738517 | DOI:10.1111/ene.16057

Scoping Review on Brain-Computer Interface-Controlled Electrical Stimulation Interventions for Upper Limb Rehabilitation in Adults: A Look at Participants, Interventions, and Technology
CONCLUSIONS: Future BCI-ES interventional studies could address this gap. Additionally, standardization of device and rehabilitation modalities, and study-appropriate involvement with therapists, can be considered to advance this intervention towards clinical implementation.PMID:37736411 | PMC:PMC10510539 | DOI:10.3138/ptc-2021-0074

Dense dopaminergic innervation of the peri ‐infarct cortex despite dopaminergic cell loss after a pure motor‐cortical stroke in rats
In this study, we assessed the reorganization of dopaminergic innervation of the PIC in a rat model of focal cortical stroke. Our data suggest a sprouting of dopaminergic fibers into the PIC and point to a role for dopaminergic signaling in reparative mechanisms post-stroke, potentially related to recovery. AbstractAfter ischemic stroke, the cortex directly adjacent to the ischemic core (i.e., the peri-infarct cortex, PIC) undergoes plastic changes that facilitate motor recovery. Dopaminergic signaling is thought to support this process. However, ischemic stroke also leads to the remote degeneration of dopaminergic midbrai...

Diffusion tensor free water MRI predicts progression of FLAIR white matter hyperintensities after ischemic stroke
DiscussionBaseline increased interstitial fluid, estimated as FW on DTI, predicted the progression of NAWM to WMH over the following year. These results implicate the presence of FW in the pathogenesis of cerebral small vessel disease progression.

Electrocardiogram alterations in non-traumatic brain injury: a systematic review
AbstractThe presence of abnormal electrocardiograms in individuals without known organic heart disease is one of the most common manifestations of cardiac dysfunction occurring during acute non traumatic brain injury. The primary goal of the present review is to provide an overview of the available data and literature regarding the presence of new-onset electrocardiographic (ECG) alterations in acute non traumatic brain injury. The secondary aim is to identify the incidence of ECG alterations and consider the prognostic significance of new-onset ECG changes in this setting. To do so, English language articles from January ...
