Nanoflower-like high-entropy Ni-Fe-Cr-Mn-Co (oxy)hydroxides for oxygen evolution
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3cc04023b. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHigh-entropy materials (HEMs) have potential application value in electrocatalytic water splitting because of their unique alloy design concept and significant mixed entropy effect. Here, we synthesize a high-entropy Ni-Fe-Cr-Mn-Co (oxy)hydroxide on nickel foam (NF) by a solvothermal method. The flower-like structure of FeNiCrMnCoOOH/NF can provide abundant active sites, thus improving the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity. In 1 M KOH, the FeNiCrMnCoOOH/NF shows an ultra-low overpotential (η10) of 201 mV for the OER, superior to...

Stereo- and regiocontrol in intermolecular 2+2 cycloadditions between diarylketenes and allenamides to access substituted α-methylenecyclobutanones
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3cc03979j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe development of intermolecular [2+2] cycloadditions between allenamides and diarylketenes is described. α-Aryldiazo arylketones are employed as ketene precursors that react smoothly with allenamides in the presence of a P(C6F5)3 promoter. High diastereoselectivity (dr > 20 : 1) with endo-regioselectivity can be achieved when two aryl groups of ketenes have opposite electronic properties. The role of P(C6F5)3 is to increase the reaction yields, but also enhancing stereoselectivity.PMID:37724358 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc03979j

Simultaneously recorded photochemical action plots reveal orthogonal reactivity
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3cc03777k. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe map the photochemical reactivity of two chromophores-a pyrene-chalcone and a methylene blue protected amine-from a one-pot reaction mixture based on their dynamic absorptivity changes upon light exposure, constructing a dual action plot. We employ the action plot data to determine a pathlength-independent λ-orthogonality window, allowing the orthogonal folding of distinct polymer chains into single chain nano-particles (SCNPs) from the same reaction mixture.PMID:37724042 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc03777k

Potassium stearate doped PEDOT:PSS improves the performance of inverted perovskite solar cells
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3cc03539e. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) suffers from lower conductivity and surface defects, which hinders the extraction and transport of effective charges, thereby reducing the Power conversion efficiency (PCE) and long-term stability of PSCs. Therefore, this study introduces potassium stearate (KSt) doping in PEDOT:PSS to regulate its conductivity and interface charge transfer. As a result, KSt-doped PEDOT:PSS increase the PCE of the device from 16.35% to 18.35%. Moreover, the PCE of PSCs with KSt-doped PE...

The glass transition in the high-density amorphous Zn/Co-ZIF-4
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3cc02492j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe high-density amorphous phases (HDAs) of bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (Zn/Co-ZIF-4) were prepared. The temperature dependence of the isobaric heat capacity (Cp) of ZIF-4 HDAs was measured to determine the glass transition temperature (Tg) of HDAs. The Tg non-linearly decreases with the molar ratio R, where R is Co/(Co + Zn), indicating the presence of a mixed-metal node effect. This effect arises from the non-linear increase of the degree of configurational freedom in the HDA as R increases. The degree of configurationa...
