Attenuation of celecoxib cardiac toxicity using Poly( δ-decalactone) based nanoemulsion via oral route
Eur J Pharm Sci. 2023 Sep 15:106585. doi: 10.1016/j.ejps.2023.106585. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCelecoxib (CLX), a poorly soluble anti-inflammatory drug, requires administration in higher concentrations to produce therapeutic effects, oftentimes resulting in cardiac toxicity. Therefore, in this study, we employed a nanoemulsion technology to improve the solubility of CLX using poly(δ-decalactone) (PDL) polymer as an oil and mPEG-b-PDL as a surfactant. The nanoemulsion (NE) was successfully prepared via the nanoprecipitation method. In vitro characterization was performed for size, drug release, and stability. In vivo ...

Phytotoxicity of weathered petroleum hydrocarbons in soil to boreal plant species
This study indicates that natural weathering of Fraction 2- and Fraction 3-concentrated soil did not eliminate phytotoxicity to boreal plant species. Furthermore, it builds on the limited existing literature for toxicity of PHCs on boreal plants and supports site remediation to existing Canadian provincial PHC guidelines.PMID:37717802 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2023.117136

Production of extracellular superoxide radical in microorganisms and its environmental implications: A review
Environ Pollut. 2023 Sep 15:122563. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122563. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExtracellular superoxide radical (O2•-) is ubiquitous in microbial environments and has significant implications for pollutant transformation. Microbial extracellular O2•- can be produced through multiple pathways, including electron leakage from the respiratory electron transport chain (ETC), NADPH oxidation by the transmembrane NADPH oxidase (NOX), and extracellular reactions. Extracellular O2•- significantly influences the geochemical processes of various substances, including toxic metals and refractory organic po...

Risky driving behaviors and employer motor vehicle safety policies among U.S. oil and gas extraction workers
CONCLUSIONS: Workers whose employers lacked motor vehicle safety policies were more likely to engage in risky driving behaviors.PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Results of this survey support the implementation of motor vehicle safety interventions such as bans on texting and handheld and hands-free cell phone use, speed management, and in-vehicle monitoring systems by OGE employers as well as research focusing on the effectiveness of these interventions in OGE. Additional research could examine worker driving behaviors through self-reported data in combination with objective measures.PMID:37718039 | PMC:PMC10505701 | DOI:10.1016/j.jsr.2023.05.015

Exploring the bioremediation capability of petroleum-contaminated soils for enhanced environmental sustainability and minimization of ecotoxicological concerns
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29801-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe bioremediation of soils contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) has emerged as a promising approach, with its effectiveness contingent upon various types of PHCs, i.e., crude oil, diesel, gasoline, and other petroleum products. Strategies like genetically modified microorganisms, nanotechnology, and bioaugmentation hold potential for enhancing remediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination. The effectiveness of bioremediation relies on factors such as metabolite toxicity, microbial competi...
