γ-tocopherol methyltransferase gene sequencing and SNP discovery associated with olive oil quality
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2023 Aug 31;69(8):111-117. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2023.69.8.17.ABSTRACTγ-tocophérol methyltransferase (GTMT), a key enzyme in the tocopherols biosynthesis pathway, is involved in the conversion of δ- and l'γ-tocophérol to β- et l'α-tocophérol, respectively. In fact, it plays an important role in the α-tocopherol composition and the quality of olive oil. A total of 14 olive tree cultivars (Olea Europaea L.) were chosen and used in this study. They were sampled from different regions of Tunisia. Four cultivars from four Mediterranean regions (Greece, Algeria, Morocco, and Spain) were inclu...

Relationship between Dental Caries Experience and the Levels of Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus in Saliva of Pregnant Women
This study aims to correlate dental caries experience with Streptococcus mutans and lactobacillus levels in saliva using real-time PCR. This case-control analytical study conducted in Erbil City, Iraq, between 2021 and 2023 used a Cariogram to assess tooth decay risk and a real-time PCR assay to detect oral bacteria. Kurdish chewing gum with oil extract was used to stimulate saliva production. The chance of preventing tooth decay was 50.57% in pregnant women and 60.26% in non-pregnant women, with a statistically significant difference. The correlation between caries risk categories and Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillu...

Microvascular blood-brain barrier alterations in isolated brain capillaries of mice over-expressing alpha-synuclein (Thy1-aSyn line 61)
Neurobiol Dis. 2023 Sep 14:106298. doi: 10.1016/j.nbd.2023.106298. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDysfunction of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is suggested to play a critical role in the pathological mechanisms of Parkinson's disease (PD). PD-related pathology such as alpha-synuclein accumulation and inflammatory processes potentially affect the integrity of the BBB early in disease progression, which in turn may alter the crosstalk of the central and peripheral immune response. Importantly, BBB dysfunction could also affect drug response in PD. Here we analyzed microvascular changes in isolated brain capillaries and brain ...

Essential Oils from Different Parts of Magnolia laevifolia: Chemical Constituents and Insecticidal Activities against Liposcelis bostrychophila
This study extracted EOs from leaves, flowers, carpels and seeds of M. laevifolia. The common and major compound of EOs was isocapnell-9-en-8-one, which was present at 17.7 to 91.6% in these four parts We found no regular pattern in the composition of EO in terms of parts and collection time according to principal component analysis. The contact and repellent activities of EOs against the booklouse were then conducted. Leaves and flowers' EOs collected in the flowering stage had the best contact toxicity. The percent repellency values of the EOs from different parts of M. laevifolia reached above 80% after 2 and 4 h exposu...
