The initial experience and response of vascular surgeons in Michigan during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conclusions: Facilities in Southeast Michigan have served as the frontline of the pandemic in the Midwest and in order to cope with the surge, rapid, and in some cases, complete restructuring of care was mandatory to effect change and attempt to deal with the emerging crisis. We describe the initial experience and response of 4 large vascular surgery health systems in Michigan to COVID-19. PMID: 33504279 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effects of coronavirus disease 2019 on the Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative arterial procedure registry
In the present report, we have described the abrupt pivot of Vascular Quality Initiative physician members away from standard clinical practice to a restrictive phase of emergent and urgent vascular procedures in response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The Society for Vascular Surgery Patient Safety Organization queried both data managers and physicians in May 2020 to discern the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately three fourths of physicians (74%) had adopted a restrictive operating policy for urgent and emergent cases only.

A 22-Year Analysis of the Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation Mentored Research Career Development Award in Fostering Vascular Surgeon-Scientists
Vascular surgeon scientists shape the future of our specialty through rigorous scientific investigation and innovation in clinical care as well as train the next generation of surgeon-scientists. The Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation (SVSF) supports the development of surgeon-scientists through the Mentored Research Career Development Award (SVSF-CDA) Program, providing supplemental funds to recipients of NIH K08/K23 grants. The ongoing success of this mission was evaluated.

Vascular Surgeon Burnout and Resilience in the United Kingdom: A report from the Vascular Society Workforce Committee.
Occupational Burnout is a growing concern in frontline roles such as vascular surgery, and is associated with medical errors and shortened careers. Our aim was to measure burnout, resilience and associated risk-factors amongst vascular surgeons (VS) in the United Kingdom (UK).

Vascular Surgery Workforce: Evaluation and Estimation of Future Demand in the United Kingdom.
Vascular disease is a common cause of death and disability in our growing elderly population, and demand for vascular procedures is increasing worldwide. Workforce planning is essential to meet future demand and provide safe vascular services. Our aim was to evaluate the current workforce in the United Kingdom (UK) and estimate future demand for vascular surgeons.

Gender differences in abdominal aortic aneurysm presentation, repair, and mortality in the Vascular Study Group of New England
Objective: Prior studies of gender differences in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair suggest there may be differences in presentation, suitability for endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), and outcomes between men and women. Methods: We used the Vascular Study Group of New England database to identify all patients undergoing EVAR or open AAA repair. We analyzed demographics, comorbidities, and procedural, and perioperative data. Results were compared using the Fisher exact test and the Student t-test. Multivariable logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards modeling were performed to identify predictors of mortalit...

Vascular Reconstruction During Major Oncologic Pancreatic Resections
There is growing evidence that major vascular reconstruction performed during pancreaticoduodenectomy for malignancy may increase local resectability without increasing morbidity or mortality. The purpose of this study was to evaluate our experience with vascular reconstructions during major pancreatic resections.
