A Simple and Accurate Model for Predicting Fall Injuries in Hospitalized Patients: Insights from a Retrospective Observational Study in Japan
CONCLUSIONS We developed a predictive model for fall injuries during hospitalization using 6 predictors, including bedriddenness ranks from official Activities of Daily Living indicators in Japan, which were all easily available on admission. The model showed good discrimination by internal validation and promises to be a useful tool to assess the risk of fall injuries.PMID:37574766 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941252

Prevalence of gonococcal and chlamydial infections among men who have sex with men in sub-Saharan Africa: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
In this study, we anticipate being able to systematically determine the prevalence ofNeisseria gonorrhoeae andChlamydia trachomatis among MSM as well as explore possible risk factors associated with prevalence. The outcomes of the systematic review and meta-analyses will serve to support researchers and public health stakeholders in identifying healthcare priorities and in addressing issues pertaining to the overall wellbeing of the MSM community.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO CRD42022327095

Meeting Patient Expectations: Assessing Medical Service and Quality of Care Using the SERVQUAL Model in Dermatology Patients at a Single Center in Poland
CONCLUSIONS The findings emphasize the critical role of care quality in shaping patients' satisfaction and perception, particularly in dermatology. Using the SERVQUAL model, this study identified the tangibility dimension as an area needing improvement. This insight serves as a stepping stone toward enhancing patient satisfaction by addressing these unmet expectations.PMID:37573473 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941007

Transgastric Jejunostomy (PEG-J) for Continuous Infusion of Levodopa-Carbidopa Intestinal Gel: An Approach for Parkinson's Disease Treatment
CONCLUSIONS Transgastric jejunostomy (PEG-J) offers an effective approach for the continuous infusion of LCIG in Parkinson's disease treatment. This method provides a stable and reliable delivery system, leading to improved symptom control and enhanced quality of life for PD patients.PMID:37571821 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941285

Factors Associated with COVID-19 Testing, Vaccination, and Use of Digital Contact Tracing Apps among Black and Latinx MSM (BLMSM) in Los Angeles
This study examines the factors associated with COVID-19 testing, vaccination intent (both individually and jointly), and willingness to use contact tracing digital apps among a cohort of Black and Latinx men who have sex with men (BLMSM) living in Los Angeles during the initial peak (July 2020) of the COVID-19 pandemic. A questionnaire detailing participants COVID-19 experiences was sent to 300 primarily BLMSM after the first state-wide COVID-19 lockdown. Logistic regression models with random cluster effects were used for analyses. Forty-two percent (42%) tested for COVID-19, 27% were willing to get vaccinated, and about...

Impact of Maternal Preoperative Hemoglobin Levels on Intraoperative Hemorrhage Risk in Placenta Accrete Spectrum Disorders: A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSIONS Maternal preoperative hemoglobin levels were inversely associated with the risk of massive intraoperative hemorrhage in PAS disorders. A non-linear relationship was identified, with a turning point at 11.5 g/dL. These findings emphasize the importance of monitoring and managing maternal hemoglobin levels to mitigate the risk of intraoperative hemorrhage in pregnant women with PAS disorders.PMID:37559346 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940443

Prospective use of a cell ‐free supernatant from the biosurfactant‐producing marine Planococcus maritimus SAMP MCC 3013 for oil removal and enhanced oil recovery
AbstractThe cell-free supernatant (CFS) of the biosurfactant (BS) producing pure strain of  Planococcus maritimus SAMP MCC 3013 was used for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). An indigenous marine culture of P. maritimus was grown in mineral salt medium (MSM) supplemented with glucose (1%) (w/v) (30°C, 120 rpm, 7 days). CFS was used to demonstrate its application for oil recovery through three assays: pumice stone, saturated gravel, and the glass beads-packed column. The recovery of light paraffin oil was ∼40 % in the pumice stone assay and ∼43% in the oil-saturated gravel assay, respectively. The glass bead column d...

Efficiency and Effectiveness of Patient Care Provided by Physicians in Rural and Urban Areas in Poland
CONCLUSIONS Five indicators developed in the study formed a scale, which is a step toward developing a uniform effectiveness indicator. Further research on consistently measuring effectiveness could significantly impact the development of sociometric research methodology. This study highlights the differences in efficiency and effectiveness of physicians working in rural vs urban areas and underscores the need for healthcare policymakers to consider these differences in addressing healthcare resource allocation.PMID:37553822 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.939169

Immunoinformatics-based multi-epitope vaccine design for the re-emerging monkeypox virus
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that the first step in MPXV pathogenesis is structural and cell surface epitopes. In this study, the most effective and promising epitopes were selected and designed throughprecision servers. Furthermore, through the utilization of multi-epitope structures and a combination of two established adjuvants, this research has the potential to be a landmarkin developing an antiviralvaccine against MPXV. However, additional in vitro and in vivo tests are required to confirm these results.PMID:37556996 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110725
