Use of a Flexible Ruler in Measuring the Length of Artificial Stapes During Stapedotomy Under Otoendoscopy
CONCLUSIONS The selection of the length of the ossicular prosthesis is a crucial step in the operation and can directly affect hearing outcomes. The use of a flexible ruler to measure prosthesis length can significantly shorten operation time and improve hearing, and the ruler is easily obtainable. It is worth promoting its application in ear endoscopic stapedotomy.PMID:37480226 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940337

'They're not as MSM, they're a < em > bufta < /em > ': using the categories 'men who have sex with men' and 'transgender' as technologies in Vanuatu
Cult Health Sex. 2023 Jul 21:1-16. doi: 10.1080/13691058.2023.2234422. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn Vanuatu, the use of the terms such as 'men who have sex with men' (MSM) and 'transgender' has increased over the past decade. This paper draws on twenty months ethnographic research in Port Vila, the country's capital, to analyse what happens on the ground when MSM and transgender categories are taken up to identify people or to narrate the self. The focus is on who uses these terms, in what ways they are experienced, and what is rendered visible (or not) by their use. This research departs from approaches framing 'non-h...

Design, evaluation, and immune simulation of potentially universal multi-epitope mpox vaccine candidate: focus on DNA vaccine
In this study, a potentially universal DNA vaccine candidate against mpox based on conserved epitopes was designed and its efficacy was evaluated via an immunoinformatics approach. The vaccine candidate demonstrated potent humoral and cellular immune responses in silico, indicating the potential efficacy in vivo and the need for further research.

Understanding Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in High-Altitude Environments: A Comprehensive Review of Diagnosis and Treatment
Med Sci Monit. 2023 Jul 20;29:e939935. doi: 10.12659/MSM.939935.ABSTRACTApproximately 2% of the global population lives above 1500 m, where low atmospheric pressure, decreased oxygen levels, harsh cold and dry conditions, strong radiation, and the effects of climate change present significant health challenges. Residents of these high-altitude areas display physiological adaptions, including smaller body size, enlarged ribs, improved oxygen delivery in hypoxic conditions, and adjustments in oxygen utilization and metabolism. Both acute and chronic hypoxia prevalent in such regions can trigger various diseases by stimulatin...

Communities at Risk for Mpox and Stigmatizing Policies: A Randomized Survey, Republic of Korea, 2022
Conclusions. Messages aimed at educating the public about most at-risk groups may trigger increased stigmatization of those groups in ways that could contribute to unnecessary persecution.
