Pain Reduction and Posture Alignment Improvement in Older Adults with Chronic Low Back Pain: A Novel Approach Using Spinal Thermal Massage Bed and Calf Pneumatic Cell Compression
CONCLUSIONS This study provides compelling evidence supporting the safety and efficacy of combining STMB with intermittent pneumatic calf compression in reducing pain intensity and stress levels and improving trunk and pelvic tilting angles. Clinical trial number: KCT0008212.PMID:37550960 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940944

Herpes Proctitis in Men Mimicking Rectal Adenocarcinoma: Two Cases of an Easily Overlooked Diagnosis in the Proximal Rectum
We report these cases to increase awareness of the unusual presentation as a proximal rectal mass with viral inclusions in endothelial cell nuclei. One patient was HIV-positive, and the other one had a history of having sex with men (MSM). Both patients had a thickened rectal wall with prominent lymphadenopathy on computed tomography (CT) scan, suspecting for malignancy. Biopsy showed abundant granulation tissue, necrosis, and inflammatory infiltrate composed predominantly of lymphocytes with admixed numerous plasma cells, eosinophils, and neutrophils. Rare granulation tissue vessels were lined by endothelial cells with nu...

Ascites Volume Quantification via Abdominal CT: A Novel Approach to Predict Severity in Acute Pancreatitis
CONCLUSIONS Early-stage acute pancreatitis patients with ascites are indicative of severe illness and poor prognosis. An increase in ascites volume correlates with adverse clinical outcomes, thus highlighting the significance of ascites volume as a prognostic marker. This underscores the importance of abdominal CT in measuring ascites volume to predict disease severity.PMID:37545114 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940783

Scales for Assessing Male Sexual Function are not Entirely Applicable to Gay and Bisexual Men with Prostate Cancer
Scales designed for assessing male sexual function may not be suitable for men of all sexual orientations. We reviewed frequently used sexual function scales and examined the item content and documentation of validation. These scales predominantly focus on general sexual function and erection. They lack questions on behaviors relevant to men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM), such as anal sex, masturbation, or sexual activities outside of committed relationships. Additionally, the validation samples rarely mention inclusion of MSM, revealing a clear gap in the clinical evaluation tools available for MSM, who are experiencing sex...

Dynamics of Microbiome Changes in the Endometrium and Uterine Cervix during Embryo Implantation: A Comparative Analysis
CONCLUSIONS Lactobacillus spp. were the main bacteria identified in the cervix and endometrium, present before, during, and after successful embryo transfer. E. coli and G. vaginalis reduced the protective effect of Lactobacilli before, during, and after embryo transfer.PMID:37543728 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941289

Assessing Automatic Plethysmographic Ankle-Brachial Index Devices in Peripheral Artery Disease Detection: A Comparative Study with Doppler Ankle-Brachial Index Measurements
CONCLUSIONS While the automatic plethysmographic ABI device may lack the necessary diagnostic capabilities to replace the traditional Doppler ABI device as a standalone test in PAD diagnosis, it could still offer significant value in primary care settings if integrated with adjusted cut-off points and pulse wave velocity analysis.PMID:37542370 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940829

Therapeutic Vaccination against Human Papillomavirus Type 16 for the Treatment of Anal Intraepithelial Neoplasia in HIV+ Men
CONCLUSIONS: The highest dose level is safe, immunogenic and associated with clinical responses to HPV16-induced lesions. However, as the majority of HGAIN is caused by the other HPV types, further studies should aim at pan-HPV vaccination to prevent or treat HGAIN.PMID:37540563 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-22-3361

Impact of Coexisting Risk Factors on Outcomes in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Real-World Analysis Using the Taiwan Chang Gung Research Database
CONCLUSIONS Patients with the combination of DM, CKD, and advanced age (elderly) experienced an 11.32-fold increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, 7.29-fold increased risk of cardiovascular events, and 8.59-fold increased risk of all-cause mortality compared to those without these risk factors. Furthermore, patients with two or more of these risk factors had a 2- to 3-fold increased risk of recurrent ACS. These findings emphasize the importance of managing multiple risk factors in ACS patients to improve outcomes.PMID:37537861 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941258
