Tenofovir diphosphate in dried blood spots and HIV-1 resistance in South Africa
CONCLUSION: TFV-DP in DBS showed a step-wise inverse relationship with VB and drug resistance, with evidence of low cumulative ART adherence in PWH who developed antiretroviral resistance. Monitoring TFV-DP concentrations could be a valuable tool for predicting future VB and future resistance.PMID:37705102 | PMC:PMC10500931 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-023-00552-w

Severity in schizophrenia patients receiving atypical antipsychotic medications
Bioinformation. 2022 Dec 31;18(12):1154-1158. doi: 10.6026/973206300181154. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTAtypical antipsychotic drugs are nowadays the mainstay of treatment of schizophrenia due to their lesser extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) as adverse effects. However, these drugs have different profiles of adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Here, the objective of this study was to analyze the probability, occurrences, and more significant involvement of various risk factors. A prospective observational study was carried out on a patient with schizophrenia who has prescribed atypical antipsychotic drugs for their treatment. The pro...

CROI 2023: Metabolic and Other Complications of HIV Infection
Top Antivir Med. 2023 Jun 30;31(4):538-542.ABSTRACTComorbid conditions have major impacts on the health, quality of life, and survival of people with HIV, particularly as they age. The 2023 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) featured excellent science related to specific comorbidities, such as cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancer, and obesity. Studies investigating factors that may contribute to CVD, such as mental health disorders, antiretroviral therapies, and activation of hormonal pathways, were featured prominently. Other studies sought to understand the epidemiology of non-AIDS-defining ca...

CROI 2023: Summary of Basic Science Research in HIV
Top Antivir Med. 2023 Jun 30;31(4):523-528.ABSTRACTThe 2023 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) represented the first fully in-person conference since the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic began. CROI continues as the premier conference in which delegates can appraise themselves of almost every facet of HIV/AIDS research as well as emerging and re-emerging pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 and mpox. The return to an in-person format is particularly important for early-stage investigators, who were faced with challenges of advancing their independent research careers...

Creation and Initial Validation of the Mayo Outpatient Precepting Evaluation Tool
CONCLUSIONS: The MOPET is a theoretically sound, behavior-based, reliable, and initially validated tool for peer review of outpatient family medicine resident teaching. This tool can support faculty development in outpatient clinical learning environments.PMID:37696025 | DOI:10.22454/FamMed.2023.164770

Extracellular Vesicles from Stromal Vascular Fraction of Human Adipose Tissue in the Development of Non-antibiotic Therapy
CONCLUSION: Additionally, the underlying science that explains how the inflammatory process aids in the clearance of infections and the restoration of homeostasis after the host immune system successfully defends against foreign pathogens, as well as the fact that adipose-derived SVF is a noninvasive, cost-effective source of a variety of parent immune cells that produces a good yield of EVs with the same genetic make-up as their parent cells, make this concept worthwhile. This research may thereby increase survival rates and survival quality in cases of resistant infections. Vocabulary: Drug- and cell-free therapy = Nano ...
