Coronary Artery Endothelial Function and Aging in People with HIV and HIV-Negative Individuals
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00143.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCoronary artery disease (CAD) is a common co-morbidity in people with HIV (PWH) and impaired coronary endothelial function (CEF) plays a central role in the pathogenesis of CAD. Age-related impaired CEF among PWH, however, is not well characterized. We investigated the association between CEF and age in males and females with and without HIV using 3T magnetic resonance imaging. We measured the changes in coronary cross-sectional area (CSA) and coronary blood flow during isometric handgrip exercise, an established en...

Effect of Tuina along "bladder meridian" alleviating intervertebral disc degeneration by regulating the transforming growth factor- β1/Smad signaling pathway in a rabbit model
CONCLUSION: Posterolateral AFP induced disc degeneration as determined by MRI assessment and histological analysis. Tuina alleviated disc degeneration, possibly by inhibiting the fibrotic response mediated by the TGF-β1/Smad pathway, thus alleviating extracellular matrix degeneration and reducing cell apoptosis.PMID:37679987 | PMC:PMC10465829 | DOI:10.19852/j.cnki.jtcm.2023.05.005

Partial segmental thrombosis of the corpus cavernosum following Russell's viper bite
In conclusion, this case report exemplifies the development of a rare segmental thrombosis in corpus cavernosum and how the medical, scientific, and general community can benefit from documenting clinical manifestations, medically relevant insights into patient care and the management of underreported complications.PMID:37683700 | DOI:10.1016/j.toxicon.2023.107284

Evaluating the state of non-invasive imaging biomarkers for traumatic brain injury
AbstractNon-invasive imaging biomarkers are useful for prognostication in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) at high risk for morbidity with invasive procedures. The authors present findings from a scoping review discussing the pertinent biomarkers. Embase, Ovid-MEDLINE, and Scopus were queried for original research on imaging biomarkers for prognostication of TBI in adult patients. Two reviewers independently screened articles, extracted data, and evaluated risk of bias. Data was synthesized and confidence evaluated with the linked evidence according to the Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Ev...
