A Dual-Aware deep learning framework for identification of glioma isocitrate dehydrogenase genotype using magnetic resonance amide proton transfer modalities
CONCLUSION: The proposed deep learning algorithm model constructed based on the image characteristics of the APT modality is effective for glioma IDH genotyping and identification task and may potentially replace the commonly used T1CE modality to avoid contrast agent injection and achieve non- invasive IDH genotyping.PMID:37712275 | PMC:PMC10505564 | DOI:10.12122/j.issn.1673-4254.2023.08.15

The application of a novel platform of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging in a bioenvironmental carbon tetrachloride-induced mouse model of liver fibrosis
Environ Res. 2023 Sep 12:117130. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.117130. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe use of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to distinguish complex histopathological changes in liver fibrosis has not yet been systematically established. The purpose of this study is to gauge the efficacy of a cutting-edge MRI platform for evaluating ecotoxicologically hazardous carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced liver fibrosis, while also scrutinizing the relationship between MRI and its histopathological features. Thirty-six mice were randomly divided into 6 groups, each with 6 mice. Control mice received ...

Effects of external environment on promoter methylation of PIK3R5 and related pathway regulation in steroid-induced femoral head necrosis
CONCLUSION: During the occurrence and development of SANFH, PIK3R5 gene regulates the PI3K/AKT pathway through methylation modification, promotes the oxidative stress response of cells, and accelerates the disease process.PMID:37709244 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2023.117116

Anatomical variations in the cerebral arterial circle of the Saimaa (Pusa hispida saimensis) and Baltic ringed seals (Pusa hispida botnica)
Anat Rec (Hoboken). 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1002/ar.25322. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe intracranial arterial vascularization of the Saimaa ringed seals (Pusa hispida saimensis; Nordquist, 1899) and Baltic ringed seals (Pusa hispida botnica; Gmelin, 1788) disclosed patterns of anatomical architecture comparable to that of other pinniped species. Arterial silicone casts on skull scaffolds, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed that the besides joining the caudal communicating arteries upon entering the cerebral arterial circle, the bilateral internal carotid arteries bifurcated as laterally oriented rostral choroida...

Clinical Observation and Analysis of Thyroglossal Duct Cyst Carcinoma: A Report of 5 Cases
This study aimed to address these gaps by analyzing and summarizing the clinical features of 5 cases of papillary carcinoma arising in thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDC).Five patients with papillary carcinoma in TGDC treated by modified Sistrunk's procedure were included. Their clinical manifestation, physical examination findings, iconography, pathological findings, treatment, and outcomes were analyzed in aiding the diagnosis and treatment of TGDCCa. Immunohistochemistry was used to confirm the papillary carcinoma subtype. The BRAFV600E mutation was detected in 2 patients. No evidence of cancer recurrence, distant metastases...

Proton range uncertainty caused by synthetic computed tomography generated with deep learning from pelvic magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSION: The sCT model was shown to be robust, i.e., had a low random model error. However, further investigation to reduce and even predict and manage systematic error is still needed for future MRI-only proton therapy.PMID:37703314 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2256967

Miliary tuberculosis mimicking COVID-19 multisystemic inflammatory syndrome in children
We present the case of a 6-year-old girl with no remarkable history who had recurrent fever for 3 months. She was initially diagnosed with, and treated for, refractory multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). When the study was extended to other differential diagnoses, thoraco-abdominopelvic computed tomography revealed miliary pulmonary nodules in addition to lymph nodes and spleen lesions. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed multiple tuberculomas. The tuberculin test results were positive. The course of the disease was favorable under quadruple therapy.PMID:37704522 | DOI:10.1016/j.arcped.2023.08.003

Top Antivir Med. 2023 Jun 30;31(4):543-555.ABSTRACTThe 2023 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) featured new and impactful findings about neuropsychiatric complications in people with HIV and other infections. Reports included new evidence of (a) the importance of myeloid cells in the pathogenesis of HIV disease in the central nervous system, including as an HIV reservoir; (b) eukaryotic and prokaryotic viruses in cerebrospinal fluid during suppressive antiretroviral therapy; (c) the influence of sex on pathogenesis, including in novel neuropsychiatric biotypes identified by machine learning and ...
