Amplified Brain Processing of Dentoalveolar Pressure Stimulus in Persistent Dentoalveolar Pain Disorder Patients.
CONCLUSION: The present results suggest that dentoalveolar pressure is processed differently in the brain of PDAP patients, and the increased activation in several brain areas is consistent with amplified pain processing. PMID: 26485382 [PubMed - in process]

Pain indicators for persisting pain in hospitalized infants in a South African setting: an explorative study.
Authors: Snoek KG, Timmers M, Albertyn R, van Dijk M Abstract In the developing world, there is a high incidence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), gastroenteritis, pneumonia, meningitis, and other inflammatory diseases in infants, the conditions of which may induce persisting pain. The primary objective was to estimate the reliability and validity of the Touch Visual Pain (TVP) scale to measure persisting pain. This prospective observational study was performed in hospitalized 0-3-year-old infants in South Africa. The Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) pain, NRS distress, and the TVP scale were applied and scores were...

Risk factors associated with clinical insomnia in chronic low back pain: a retrospective analysis in a university hospital in Korea.
CONCLUSIONS: Insomnia should be addressed as an integral part of pain management in CLBP patients with these risk factors, especially in patients suffering from CLBP with comorbid musculoskeletal pain. PMID: 25852836 [PubMed]

Persistent Post-radiotherapy Pain and Locoregional Recurrence in Head and Neck Cancer-Is There a Hidden Link?
CONCLUSIONS: Pain in head and neck cancer is an important symptom and should be considered a poor prognostic factor. In the current study, the majority of the patients with persistent pain had recurrent disease as compared to those in whom pain subsided within 3 months of post-treatment. It is suggested that patients with persistent pain need more intense follow-up and should be investigated thoroughly to detect recurrence at an early stage to provide a better quality of life. The Attenuation of Pain Behavior and Serum COX-2 Concentration by Curcumin in a Rat Model of Neuropathic Pain.
CONCLUSIONS: A considerable decline in pain behavior and serum COX-2 levels was seen in rat following administration of curcumin in CCI model of neuropathic pain. High concentration of Curcumin was able to reduce the chronic neuropathic pain induced by CCI model and the serum level of COX-2. PMID: 25031810 [PubMed]

Social Context and Dental Pain in Adults of Colombian Ethnic Minority Groups: A Multilevel Cross-Sectional Study.
CONCLUSION: The variance in dental pain was higher between states than between ethnic groups in the multivariate multilevel model. Dental pain in CEGs was associated with contextual and individual factors. Considering contextual factors, GDP and HDI may play a major role in dental pain prevalence. Chronic Neck Pain and Cervico-Craniofacial Pain Patients Express Similar Levels of Neck Pain-Related Disability, Pain Catastrophizing, and Cervical Range of Motion.
Conclusion. The CCFP and NP patient groups have similar neck disability levels and limitation in cervical ROM in extension and rotation. Both groups had positively correlated the NDI with the PCS. PMID: 27119020 [PubMed]

Open versus Laparoscopic Surgery: Does the Surgical Technique Influence Pain Outcome? Results from an International Registry.
Authors: Allvin R, Rawal N, Johanzon E, Bäckström R Abstract Postoperative pain management relevant for specific surgical procedures is debated. The importance of evaluating pain with consideration given to type of surgery and the patient's perspective has been emphasized. In this prospective cohort study, we analysed outcome data from 607 patients in the international PAIN OUT registry for assessment and comparison of postoperative pain outcome within the 24 first hours after laparoscopic and open colonic surgery. Patients from the laparoscopic group scored minimum pain at a higher level than the open group (P =...
