Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 7978: Comparative Analysis of Open-Source Tools for Conducting Static Code Analysis
This article compares the performance of open-source tools for conducting static code analysis for security purposes. Eleven different tools were evaluated in this study, scanning 16 vulnerable web applications. The selected vulnerable web applications were chosen for having the best possible documentation regarding their security vulnerabilities for obtaining reliable results. In reality, the static code analysis tools used in this paper can also be applied to other types of applications, such as embedded systems. Based on the results obtained and the conducted analysis, recommendations for the use of these types of solut...

Spatial transcriptomics reveals asymmetric cellular responses to injury in the regenerating spiny mouse (Acomys) ear RESOURCES
In contrast to other mammals, the spiny mouse (Acomys) regenerates skin and ear tissue, which includes hair follicles, glands, and cartilage, in a scar-free manner. Ear punch regeneration is asymmetric with only the proximal wound side participating in regeneration. Here, we show that cues originating from the proximal side are required for normal regeneration and use spatially resolved transcriptomics (tomo-seq) to understand the molecular and cellular events underlying this process. Analyzing gene expression across the ear and comparing expression modules between proximal and distal wound sides, we identify asymmetric ge...

Diverticulosis and cardiometabolic risk factors: a systematic literature review
ConclusionBased on the synthesized data, there is an association between arterial hypertension, obesity, and fatty liver disease in younger patients. The formation of diverticula seems to be influenced by age and genetic factors. The study suggests a connection with cardiometabolic risk factors. To gain a better understanding of the role of metabolic risk factors in asymptomatic diverticulosis, targeted studies are necessary based on these findings.

Modelling the transmission of dengue, zika and chikungunya: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Aedes mosquitoes are the primary vectors for the spread of viruses like dengue (DENV), zika (ZIKV) and chikungunya (CHIKV), all of which affect humans. Those diseases contribute to global public health issues because of their great dispersion in rural and urban areas. Mathematical and statistical models have become helpful in understanding these diseases’ epidemiological dynamics. However, modelling the complexity of a real phenomenon, such as a viral disease, should consider several factors. This scoping review aims to document, identify and classify the most important factors as well as the modelling s...

Types and effects of feedback for emergency ambulance staff: a systematic mixed studies review and meta-analysis
Conclusion This review demonstrated that the evidence base currently does not support a clear single point estimate of the pooled effect of feedback to EMS staff as a single intervention type due to study heterogeneity. Further research is needed to provide guidance and frameworks supporting better design and evaluation of feedback interventions within EMS. PROSPERO registration number CRD42020162600.

Drainage versus no drainage after burr-hole evacuation of chronic subdural hematoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis of 1961 patients
AbstractChronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) is a common neurosurgical condition that can cause severe morbidity and mortality. cSDH recurs after surgical evacuation in 5 –30% of patients, but drains may help reduce this risk. We aimed to investigate the effect of drainage versus no drainage on the rates of recurrence and mortality, as well as the clinical outcomes of cSDH. Following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) gu idelines, we searched four electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science) to identify eligible studies reported up to June 2022. Usin...

Hypericum sampsonii Hance: a review of its botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry, biological activity, and safety
Conclusion: Collectively, this review provides a comprehensive overview of the botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and safety of H. sampsonii, a valuable medicinal plant in China with various pharmacological activities. Based on pharmacological studies, H. sampsonii shows potential for treating gastrointestinal and gynecological disorders as well as traumatic injuries, which aligns with traditional medicinal use due to the presence of PPAPs, benzophenones, xanthones, and flavonoids. Therefore, further studies are needed to evaluate the pharmacological effects and elucidate the pharmacological mechanisms...

Prophylactic intravenous norepinephrine for the prevention of hypotension during spinal anesthesia for elective cesarean section: a systematic review and dose –response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Conclusion: An increased NE infusion rate was associated with a decreased incidence of post-spinal hypotension but an increased incidence of hypertension. Therefore, 0.07 μg/kg/min was recommended as the initial NE infusion rate for clinical practice, as it was associated with the lowest risk of physician intervention for unstable hemodynamics after spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery.Systematic Review Registration: (https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/display_record.php?RecordID=349934), identifier (CRD42022349934).

Hearing and Diet (Narrative Review)
AbstractIt seems that food factors and the type of nutrition have an effect on the function of the auditory system. Hearing is one of the most important senses for social communication and high cognitive behaviors. Sensorineural hearing loss leaves adverse and permanent consequences in all aspects of personal and social life of affected patients. Hence, this narrative review study was designed to determine the relationship between sensorineural hearing loss and type of diet. Based on the inclusion criteria, the full text of 62 articles published between 2005 and 2023 were extracted from Scopus, Medline [PubMed], Web of Sci...

Bacillus Calmette-Gu érin vaccination for protection against recurrent herpes labialis: a nested randomised controlled trial
EClinicalMedicine. 2023 Sep 11;64:102203. doi: 10.1016/j.eclinm.2023.102203. eCollection 2023 Oct.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Recurrences of herpes simplex virus (HSV) in the orofacial region (herpes labialis or cold sores) impact quality-of-life. We aimed to study whether the bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine can attenuate cold sore recurrences through off-target immunomodulatory effects.METHODS: In this nested randomised controlled trial within the multicentre, phase 3 BRACE trial, 6828 healthcare workers were randomised in 36 sites in Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and Brazil, to receive BCG-Denmark ...
