Multiple Myeloma in Young Patients: A Scoping Review
Clin Lymphoma Myeloma Leuk. 2023 Aug 28:S2152-2650(23)00277-X. doi: 10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.019. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTData on the disease course, presenting features, outcomes, and prognosis of younger patients with multiple myeloma (MM) are lacking. Younger patients with MM have historically been considered to have better outcomes primarily based on better tolerance of treatment and lack of medical comorbidities, but the specific age range of this population has not been uniformly defined. Given the lack of consistent data reporting in patients considered to be young MM patients, we performed a scoping review to h...

The negative effect of concomitant medications on immunotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer: An umbrella review
CONCLUSIONS: The concurrent usage of PPIs or steroids adversely affects the survival of patients with NSCLC receiving immunotherapy. Future investigations are required to ascertain whether these adverse effects are primarily attributed to the comorbidities or the concurrent medications.PMID:37722262 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110919

Protocol for a web-based study on the work environment and daily lifestyle of Japanese employees
Ind Health. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.2486/indhealth.2023-0068. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMental health problems are prevalent among the working population and must be resolved. We conducted a web-based large-scale study of workers, including a baseline survey and two follow-up surveys, to investigate the associations between self-care behaviors in daily life (e.g., stress coping, sleep, diet, and exercise), work environment improvements, and mental health among Japanese employees from various industries. In this protocol, we demonstrate the study design and demographic data of the participants in the baseline survey. Invit...

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders and  related risk factors among bakers: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: WRMSDs for bakery workers have been less studied than other occupational diseases. Our systematic review found several significant relations between the factors influencing the prevalence of MSDs. This study also showed the comparison of traditional and modern cooking systems with diseases of the upper limbs, shoulders, and back pain as possible fields for future research.PMID:37718825 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-220165

Methodological Issues with Head and Neck Cancer Prognostic Risk Prediction Models
CONCLUSION: Currently published studies provide insufficient information on methods, making it difficult to judge the models' quality and applicability. Future investigations should follow the guidelines in reporting the prediction modelling studies.PMID:37721548 | DOI:10.1922/CDH_00015Ghanati09

Bacillus Calmette-Gu érin vaccination for protection against recurrent herpes labialis: a nested randomised controlled trial
EClinicalMedicine. 2023 Sep 11;64:102203. doi: 10.1016/j.eclinm.2023.102203. eCollection 2023 Oct.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Recurrences of herpes simplex virus (HSV) in the orofacial region (herpes labialis or cold sores) impact quality-of-life. We aimed to study whether the bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine can attenuate cold sore recurrences through off-target immunomodulatory effects.METHODS: In this nested randomised controlled trial within the multicentre, phase 3 BRACE trial, 6828 healthcare workers were randomised in 36 sites in Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and Brazil, to receive BCG-Denmark ...

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases: A systematic review and meta-analysis
JCPP Adv. 2023 Apr 5;3(3):e12158. doi: 10.1002/jcv2.12158. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTAttention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often co-occurs with other psychiatric and physical diseases. However, available evidence on associations between ADHD and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is mixed. To systematically review, quantitatively synthesize, and appraise available evidence on the link between ADHD with CVDs, we searched relevant articles in PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, and Web of Science from inception to May 1, 2022. Study quality was assessed by using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, and random-effects model meta-analys...

A systematic review of dramatherapy interventions used to alleviate emotional distress and support the well-being of children and young people aged 8-18  years old
CONCLUSION: Despite promising results with regards to the treatment of child and adolescent emotional distress, the evidence base for dramatherapy is small and methodologically flawed. Larger, methodologically robust trials should test the efficacy of dramatherapy in future research.PMID:37720583 | PMC:PMC10501692 | DOI:10.1002/jcv2.12145

Sleep parameters and problems in adolescents with and without ADHD: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Adolescents with ADHD report significantly worsened subjectively sleep parameters and more sleep problems compared to controls. These findings are still preliminary as a limited number of studies was identified. Nevertheless, it is advised to routinely include sleep assessment in the ADHD diagnostic process. More research is needed with a focus on objective measurement and sleep hygiene in ADHD.PMID:37720581 | PMC:PMC10501691 | DOI:10.1002/jcv2.12151
