Vascular Complications Following Percutaneous Femoral Arterial Access at a Multi-Disciplinary Institution
This study evaluates vascular surgical complications following percutaneous femoral arterial access over a seven year span at a multidisciplinary center. Trends over time, between disciplines and practitioners as well as vascular closure device (VCD) usage were identified.

Ankle Brachial Pressure Index: An update for the vascular specialist and general practitioner.
CONCLUSIONS: A thorough understanding of the correct technique and associated limitations of ABPI measurement is essential in accurately generating and interpreting the data it provides. With this knowledge, the ABPI is an invaluable tool to help manage patients with peripheral arterial disease. Perhaps more importantly, ABPI can be used to identify and risk stratify patients with asymptomatic peripheral arterial disease, itself a major indicator of significant underlying cardiovascular disease. With the emergence of best medical therapy, targeted pharmacotherapy and lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of major cardiovas...

Outcomes of the V-Healthy Awareness Campaign That Empowers High-School Students to Understand and Diagnose Vascular Disease Risk Factors
Just imagine the impact of empowering young high-school students to become the Sherlock Holmes of vascular health and disease. V-Healthy is a grassroots vascular education and awareness campaign that educates high-school students of the importance of vascular disease risks they face today and its impact decades later.

Physician Reimbursement for Vascular Surgery Procedures and Vascular Laboratory Studies Before and After the Affordable Care  Act
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), fully implemented by 2015, has significantly increased the number of Americans with health insurance. However, its impact on physician reimbursement (PR) is not well studied. Our objective was to determine the ACA's impact on the professional component of PR for selected vascular surgery (VS) procedures and vascular laboratory (VL) studies at our institution.

Future Demands for Vascular Care: A Census-Based Analysis
The 2016 Canadian Census identified the age group of 65 and older as making up a larger population percentage than those aged 15  years and younger. This demographic shift, as well as the information revolution, may impact the demand for vascular services and vascular disease management. The aims of this study are to (1) identify the national/provincial population size, (2) link population to vascular disease data, and (3) l ink disease data to resource requirements.

Stroke rate after endovascular aortic interventions in the Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative
The stroke rate after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), particularly complex EVAR such as fenestrated EVAR (FEVAR) and chimney EVAR (chEVAR), is not well defined. Whereas stroke is a well-established risk of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), the impact of procedural characteristics on stroke remains unclear. Therefore, we characterized the risk of stroke after endovascular aortic interventions in the Vascular Quality Initiative database and identified procedural characteristics associated with stroke.

Perioperative cardiovascular complications rate and activity of coagulation and fibrinolysis among patients undergoing vascular surgery for peripheral artery disease and abdominal aortic aneurysm.
CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests higher activation of coagulation and relatively lower fibrinolytic activity in peripheral artery disease group compared to patients undergoing surgery for abdominal aortic aneurysm without a significant difference in cardiovascular outcomes. Journal of Vascular Surgery – August 2020 Audiovisual Summary
Hello! My name is Peter Lawrence and I am pleased to introduce the August issue of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and highlight four outstanding papers that are freely available for the next 2  months. This is the fourth video that we have produced since the COVID virus hit the U.S., and we know that many of our readers of the JVS journals lives have been turned upside down. We have received over 150 COVID papers, but we must now begin turning down. If we took them all, you would need a wheelbarrow to carry the journal! Therefore, we are restoring our previous rules, even for COVID papers—all accepted arterial COVID pa...

Assessment of cardio-ankle vascular index in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm: An observational study.
CONCLUSION: CAVI is increased in patients with AAA. Increased arterial stiffness may be a mechanical link between AAA, coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease or a common mechanism effects the arterial stiffness, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease and AAA. Therefore, CAVI may be used as a valuable marker for risk stratification for the development of AAA in susceptible patients. PMID: 32757746 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Changing tides: A vascular surgery trainee perspective on the #MedBikini Campaign and a call for action
Within a matter of 48  hours, the promotion of the article entitled “Prevalence of unprofessional social media content among young vascular surgeons,” aptly demonstrated the power of social media and the dangers of unconscious bias as it spread across Twitter with the #MedBikini tag. In response, vascular surgeons f rom around the world have come together in a call to action to address the article and highlight the misogynistic, racist, and oppressive issues facing young surgeons today. We, as female vascular surgery trainees, would like to make our own call to action.

The initial experience and response of vascular surgeons in Michigan during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conclusions: Facilities in Southeast Michigan have served as the frontline of the pandemic in the Midwest and in order to cope with the surge, rapid, and in some cases, complete restructuring of care was mandatory to effect change and attempt to deal with the emerging crisis. We describe the initial experience and response of 4 large vascular surgery health systems in Michigan to COVID-19. PMID: 33504279 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A 22-Year Analysis of the Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation Mentored Research Career Development Award in Fostering Vascular Surgeon-Scientists
Vascular surgeon scientists shape the future of our specialty through rigorous scientific investigation and innovation in clinical care as well as train the next generation of surgeon-scientists. The Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation (SVSF) supports the development of surgeon-scientists through the Mentored Research Career Development Award (SVSF-CDA) Program, providing supplemental funds to recipients of NIH K08/K23 grants. The ongoing success of this mission was evaluated.
