Clinical outcome analysis of non-small cell lung cancer patients with brain metastasis receiving metastatic brain tumor resection surgery: a multicenter observational study
Am J Cancer Res. 2023 Aug 15;13(8):3607-3617. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTBrain metastasis is most common in primary non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and some patients require neurosurgical resection for intracranial disease control. Because advances in systemic therapies for metastatic NSCLC have been developed in the past decade, we aimed to analyze and determine clinical factors associated with the postresection survival of NSCLC patients with brain metastasis who underwent neurosurgery followed by systemic therapy. Between January 2017 and December 2021, data for 93 NSCLC patients with brain metastasis treated with neu...

Fight Aging! Newsletter, September 11th 2023
This article reviews the current regulatory role of miR-7 in inflammation and related diseases, including viral infection, autoimmune hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and encephalitis. It expounds on the molecular mechanism by which miR-7 regulates the occurrence of inflammatory diseases. Finally, the existing problems and future development directions of miR-7-based intervention on inflammation and related diseases are discussed to provide new references and help strengthen the understanding of the pathogenesis of inflammation and related diseases, as well as the development of new strategies for clinical interventi...

Overall Survival of Metastatic Prostate Cancer Patients According to Location of Visceral Metastatic Sites
CONCLUSION: In mPCa patients, lung only visceral metastases, especially when associated with lymph node only nonvisceral metastases, portend the best prognosis. Conversely, visceral metastatic sites other than lung portend poor prognosis, regardless of concomitant nonvisceral metastases type.PMID:37690970 | DOI:10.1016/j.clgc.2023.08.004

HERTHENA-Lung01, a Phase II Trial of Patritumab Deruxtecan (HER3-DXd) in Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor-Mutated Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer After Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Therapy and Platinum-Based Chemotherapy
CONCLUSION: After tumor progression with EGFR TKI therapy and PBC in patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC, HER3-DXd once every 3 weeks demonstrated clinically meaningful efficacy with durable responses, including in CNS metastases. A phase III trial in EGFR-mutated NSCLC after progression on an EGFR TKI is ongoing (HERTHENA-Lung02; ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT05338970).PMID:37689979 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.23.01476

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4499: Resveratrol-Laden Nano-Systems in the Cancer Environment: Views and Reviews
Alshammari Mohd Imran The genesis of cancer is a precisely organized process in which normal cells undergo genetic alterations that cause the cells to multiply abnormally, colonize, and metastasize to other organs such as the liver, lungs, colon, and brain. Potential drugs that could modify these carcinogenic pathways are the ones that will be used in clinical trials as anti-cancer drugs. Resveratrol (RES) is a polyphenolic natural antitoxin that has been utilized for the treatment of several diseases, owing to its ability to scavenge free radicals, control the expression and activity of antioxidant enzymes, and have...

Two Sides of The Same Coin: Normal and Tumoral Stem Cells, The Relevance of In Vitro Models and Therapeutic Approaches: The Experience with Zika Virus in Nervous System Development and Glioblastoma Treatment
Int J Mol Sci. 2023 Aug 31;24(17):13550. doi: 10.3390/ijms241713550.ABSTRACTNeural stem cells (NSCs) were described for the first time more than two decades ago for their ability to differentiate into all neural cell lineages. The isolation of NSCs from adults and embryos was carried out by various laboratories and in different species, from mice to humans. Similarly, no more than two decades ago, cancer stem cells were described. Cancer stem cells, previously identified in hematological malignancies, have now been isolated from several solid tumors (breast, brain, and gastrointestinal compartment). Though the origin of th...

Machine-Learning-Aided Prediction of Brain Metastases Development in Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancers
CONCLUSION: Analysis of the importance of input features suggests that the models are learning the relevant relationships between clinical features/development of BM. A higher number of samples is to be prioritized to improve performance. Employed prospectively at initial diagnosis, such models can help select high-risk subgroups for surveillance brain MRI.PMID:37689579 | DOI:10.1016/j.cllc.2023.08.002

Differentiation of lung and breast cancer brain metastases: Comparison of texture analysis and deep convolutional neural networks
CONCLUSION: CNNs achieved superior diagnostic performance in differentiating brain metastases from lung and breast malignancies than texture-based image features. Differentiation using 3D volumes as input exhibited a higher success rate than 2D sagittal images.PMID:37688435 | DOI:10.1002/jcu.23558

Kinsenoside from Anoectochilus roxburghii (Wall.) Lindl. suppressed oxidative stress to attenuate aging-related learning and memory impairment via ERK/Nrf2 pathway
CONCLUSION: The present study indicated that Kin could alleviate the oxidative stress in aging mice via activating the ERK/Nrf2 signaling pathway, in order to attenuate aging and aging-related learning and memory impairment, as the main active ingredient of AR.PMID:37689328 | DOI:10.1016/j.jep.2023.117152

A Novel Mutation of < em > MSH2 < /em > Gene in a Patient with Lynch Syndrome Presenting with Thirteen Metachronous Malignancies
J Clin Med. 2023 Aug 24;12(17):5502. doi: 10.3390/jcm12175502.ABSTRACTLynch syndrome (LS), also known as hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), accounts for 2-3% of all colorectal cancers. This autosomal dominant disorder is associated with a predisposition to endometrial, stomach, small bowel, pancreatic, biliary tract, ovary, urinary tract, brain, and skin tumors. Lynch syndrome is caused by the mutation of the MLH1, MSH2 (EPCAM), MSH6, and PMS2 genes. In this article, a case study of a 70-year-old female patient with Lynch syndrome is presented. Over a span of 30 years, the patient underwent multiple surgica...
