The influence of various endocrine disruptors on the reproductive system
This article presents the current state of knowledge of the effect of EDCs and additional factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and cannabis on the gonads. The article is an overview of the impact of EDCs and their mechanism of action, with particular emphasis on gonads, based on databases such as PubMed, EMBASE and Google Scholar, and Web of Science available until May 2022. The impact of human exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) is not fully understood, but it has been shown that phthalates show a negative correlation in anti-androgenic activity in the case of men and women for the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH). Clinical, Gender, Socioeconomic Characteristics and Outcomes of Individuals Receiving Hepatitis B Treatment in Ethiopia: 18-Month Follow-Up
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Sep 11:tpmd230236. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0236. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere is a lack of real-world data on hepatitis B (HBV) treatment in Africa. We conducted a single-center 18-month prospective cohort study in Ethiopia to understand clinical, laboratory, and demographic variables associated with HBV treatment. One hundred fifty HBV-positive patients were included: 51 on treatment, 99 with no treatment. Median age was similar between groups. Those on treatment were more likely to be male (86%), report higher coffee intake (90% versus 70%, P < 0.05), lower khat intake (0% versus 9%, P = 0...

Accuracy of a Glycerol Dehydrogenase Assay for Ethylene Glycol Detection
CONCLUSIONS: The GDH assay provides a sensitive and specific method for the detection and quantification of EG that is comparable to a GC-based method. More widespread use of this rapid, inexpensive assay could improve the care of patients with suspected toxic alcohol exposure. Further study is needed to evaluate the test performance in real-time patient treatment decisions.PMID:37695470 | DOI:10.1007/s13181-023-00967-x

Dietary habits among snus users: a population-based cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: We observed that snus users had an unhealthier diet than never tobacco users. Future studies on the association between snus use and health outcomes should, therefore, consider diet as a potential confounder.PMID:37691745 | PMC:PMC10492228 | DOI:10.29219/fnr.v67.9537

Chronotype, Unhealthy Lifestyle, and Diabetes Risk in Middle-Aged U.S. Women : A Prospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Middle-aged nurses with an evening chronotype were more likely to report unhealthy lifestyle behaviors and had increased diabetes risk compared with those with a morning chronotype. Accounting for BMI, physical activity, diet, and other modifiable lifestyle factors attenuated much but not all of the increased diabetes risk.PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE: National Institutes of Health.PMID:37696036 | DOI:10.7326/M23-0728
