Preparation and characterization of polyvinyl alcohol/sodium lignosulfonate/black rice anthocyanin extract agricultural film for monitoring soil pH
This study focuses on the formulation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based films with pH-sensitive properties and ultraviolet (UV) resistance by incorporating sodium lignosulfonate (LS) and varying concentrations of black rice anthocyanin extract (BRE) into PVA matrix. The films were characterized through Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), tensile test, water vapor permeability (WVP), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy. The results indicated that BRE and LS effectively formed strong hydrogen bonds with PVA, leading to reduced film crystallinity, improved mechanical properties, ...

Genes, Vol. 14, Pages 1811: Exercise Does Not Independently Improve Histological Outcomes in Biopsy-Proven Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Discussion: Exercise alone may not lead to significant histopathological improvement in NAFLD. Future well-powered randomized controlled trials are needed to better characterize the impact of exercise on histological outcomes and clinical endpoints.

Mechanisms, methods and applications of machine learning in bio-alcohol production and utilization: A review
This article reviews the mechanisms, methods, and applications of ML in the bio-alcohols field. In terms of mechanisms, we describe the workflow of ML applications, emphasizing the importance of a well-defined research problem and complete feature engineering for a robust model. Prediction and optimization are the main application scenarios. In terms of methods, we illustrate the characteristics of different ML models and analyze their applicability in the bio-alcohol field. The role of ML in the production of bio-methanol by pyrolysis and gasification, as well as in the three stages of fermentation for bioethanol producti...

Guided LGBTQ-affirmative internet cognitive-behavioral therapy for sexual minority youth's mental health: A randomized controlled trial of a minority stress treatment approach
CONCLUSIONS: LGBTQ-affirmative ICBT represents a feasible and acceptable treatment. Future research can identify more efficacious approaches and modalities for engaging LGBTQ youth, especially those living under stigmatizing conditions, who might benefit most.PMID:37716019 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104403

Data-driven supervised machine learning to predict the mechanical response of porous polyvinyl alcohol/gelatin hydrogels subjected to compressive loading and analysis of their microstructural properties: Employing design of experiments
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 14:126906. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126906. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to design and evaluate a series of porous hydrogels by considering three independent variables using the Box-Behnken method. Accordingly, concentrations of the constituent macromolecules of the hydrogels, Polyvinyl Alcohol and Gelatin, and concentration of the crosslinking agent are varied to fabricate sixteen different porous samples utilizing the lyophilization process. Subsequently, the porous hydrogels are subjected to a battery of tests, including Fourier Transform Infrared spectrosc...

Cortical paired associative stimulation shows impaired plasticity of inhibition networks as a function of chronic alcohol use
CONCLUSION: In line with previous findings, cPAS improved response inhibition in healthy adults by strengthening the fronto-striatal network through putative long-term potentiation-like plasticity mechanisms. Furthermore, we identified a possible marker of impaired cortical excitability, and, thus, diminished capacity for cPAS-induced neuroplasticity in AUD with direct implications to a disorder-relevant cognitive process.PMID:37712403 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723002374

Substance Use Among Patients With Incident Crohn's Disease in the United States, 2010 to 2019: A Medicaid Observational Study
CONCLUSION: Among Medicaid enrollees with incident CD, alcohol and opioid use were more frequent than previously published estimates for the general US population (6% and 4%, respectively, in 2019). Consequently, medical communities must be more aware of substance use by patients with CD to provide quality patient-centered care.PMID:37712010 | PMC:PMC10500958 | DOI:10.1016/j.gastha.2023.03.019
