The association between childhood adiposity in northeast China and anthropogenic heat flux: A new insight into the comprehensive impact of human activities
In this study, we matched the 2008-2012 average anthropogenic heat flux, as simulated by a grid estimation model using inventory methods, with questionnaire and measurement data of 49,938 children randomly recruited from seven cities in Northeast China in 2012. After adjusting for social demographic and behavioral factors, we used generalized linear mixed-effect models to assess the association between anthropogenic heat flux and adiposity among children. We also examined the effect modification of various social demographic and behavioral confounders. We found that each 10 W/m2 increase in total anthropogenic heat flux an...

Preliminary evidence of an increased susceptibility to face pareidolia in postpartum women
Biol Lett. 2023 Sep;19(9):20230126. doi: 10.1098/rsbl.2023.0126. Epub 2023 Sep 13.ABSTRACTAs primates, we are hypersensitive to faces and face-like patterns in the visual environment, hence we often perceive illusory faces in otherwise inanimate objects, such as burnt pieces of toast and the surface of the moon. Although this phenomenon, known as face pareidolia, is a common experience, it is unknown whether our susceptibility to face pareidolia is static across our lifespan or what factors would cause it to change. Given the evidence that behaviour towards face stimuli is modulated by the neuropeptide oxytocin (OT), we re...

Factors associated with spontaneous vaginal birth in nulliparous women: A descriptive systematic review
CONCLUSION: Declining SVB rates may be improved through multi-factorial approaches inclusive of maternal, fetal and clinical care domains. However, the variability of SVB rates testifies to the complexity of the issue.PMID:37704535 | DOI:10.1016/j.wombi.2023.08.009

Gut microbiota and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy: evidence from the mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSIONS: This study first applied the MR approach to detect the causal relationships between GM and specific HDP subtypes. Our findings may promote the prevention and treatment of HDP targeted on GM and provide valuable insights to understand the mechanism of HDP in different subtypes from the perspective of GM.PMID:37698537 | DOI:10.18632/aging.205019

Preabortion ultrasound - a patient perspective
CONCLUSION: Most women opting for medical abortion through telemedicine did not undergo a pre-abortion ultrasound scan. The main reason stated was that women did not find it necessary, lack of resources and privacy issues.PMID:37698511 | DOI:10.1080/13625187.2023.2249158

Noninvasive screening of fetal RHD genotype in Chinese pregnant women with serologic RhD-negative phenotype
CONCLUSION: On the basis of maternal RHD genotyping, fetal genotyping through qPCR or high-throughput sequencing can improve the accuracy and success rate of prenatal fetal RhD phenotype prediction among Chinese pregnant women. It plays a potential role in guiding anti-D prophylaxis and pregnancy management in Chinese pregnant women.PMID:37698267 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17545

Cigarette Smoking Abstinence Among Pregnant Individuals Using E-Cigarettes or Nicotine Replacement Therapy
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: These findings suggest that individuals who used e-cigarettes during pregnancy had a higher smoking abstinence rate in late pregnancy than individuals who used NRT, especially for those who initiated e-cigarette use before pregnancy, indicating that replacement of cigarettes with e-cigarettes during pregnancy may be a viable strategy for harm reduction.PMID:37698863 | DOI:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2023.30249

Determination of cefuroxime in breast milk by LC-MS/MS using SALLME technique
In this study, we aimed to develop the LC-MS/MS method using salt-assisted liquid-liquid micro-extraction (SALLME) for the determination of cefuroxime in breast milk. The method was validated according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) guidelines. Cefuroxime and the internal standard cefixime were extracted from plasma by a SALLME technique. The results obtained from the entire validation study are at an acceptable level according to the EMA criteria. The calibration curve of cefuroxime was between 25 and 1000 ng/ml, with correlation coefficients of >0.99. The lower limit of quantitation was 25 ng/ml for cefuroxime...
