Identification of the Near Full-length Genome of a Novel HIV-1 CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC Recombinant with a Complex Genomic Structure Isolated in Hebei Province, China
CONCLUSION: The increase in CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC recombinant viruses suggests that HIV-1 has a high genetic mutation rate in Hebei, China. This highlights the need for close monitoring of HIV-1 molecular epidemiologic changes to provide accurate, up-to-date information for effective disease control.PMID:37642005 | DOI:10.2174/1570162X21666230828122711

< em > Clostridioides difficile < /em > resistance to antibiotics, including post-COVID-19 data
Expert Rev Clin Pharmacol. 2023 Aug 29:1-14. doi: 10.1080/17512433.2023.2252331. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Updating data on Clostridioides difficile antibiotic resistance is important for treatment improvement of C. difficile infections (CDIs).AREAS COVERED: Results from 20 countries were included. The mean resistance to 2 mg/l vancomycin, 2 mg/l metronidazole, 4 mg/l moxifloxacin, and 4 mg/l clindamycin was 4.7% (0 to ≥ 26% in two studies), 2.6% (0 to ≥ 40% in 3 studies), 34.9% (6.6->80%), and 61.0% (30->90%), respectively. Resistance to erythromycin (>60-88%), rifampin (>23-55.0%), imipe...

A single-molecule RNA electrical biosensor for COVID-19
Biosens Bioelectron. 2023 Aug 23;239:115624. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2023.115624. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic shows a critical need for rapid, inexpensive, and ultrasensitive early detection methods based on biomarker analysis to reduce mortality rates by containing the spread of epidemics. This can be achieved through the electrical detection of nucleic acids at the single-molecule level. In particular, the scanning tunneling microscopic-assisted break junction (STM-BJ) method can be utilized to detect individual nucleic acid molecules with high specificity and sensitivity in liquid samples. Here, we d...

"I Just Don't Feel Heard": A Case Study on Opioid Use Disorder and Pain Management
J Pain Palliat Care Pharmacother. 2023 Aug 28:1-6. doi: 10.1080/15360288.2023.2250340. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe nation's opioid epidemic requires a paradigm shift in the way patients with co-occurring opioid use disorder are treated during episodes of acute pain. Patients are often introduced to prescription opioids after an extremity fracture or sprain or resulting from musculoskeletal back, abdominal, or dental pain. Opioid naive patients who receive their first opioid prescription on discharge from the emergency department may be more likely to develop chronic opioid use compared to patients receiving non-opioi...
