Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and Gastric Cancer Claims in South Korea: A Nationwide, Population-Based Study
CONCLUSION: Negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on EGD, gastric cancer, EGC, AGC, and gastric cancer operation was worst during the first surge of COVID-19, but decreased in the 2nd to 4th epidemic wave of the disease in 2020 and 2021.PMID:37634631 | PMC:PMC10462811 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2023.0074

The potential cost-effectiveness of next generation influenza vaccines in England and Wales: A modelling analysis
Vaccine. 2023 Aug 24:S0264-410X(23)00963-5. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.08.031. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNext generation influenza vaccines are in development and have the potential for widespread health and economic benefits. Determining the potential health and economic impact for these vaccines is needed to drive investment in bringing these vaccines to the market, and to inform which groups public health policies on influenza vaccination should target. We used a mathematical modelling approach to estimate the epidemiological impact and cost-effectiveness of next generation influenza vaccines in England and Wales. ...

Worldwide Evolution of Vaccinable and Nonvaccinable Viral Skin Infections: Google Trends Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Harnessing data generated by web searches may increase the efficacy of traditional surveillance systems and strengthens the suspicion that the incidence of some vaccinable viral skin infections such as varicella, measles, and rubella may be globally increasing, whereas the incidence of common nonvaccinable skin infections remains stable.PMID:37632891 | DOI:10.2196/35034

Age-specific severity of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2  in February 2020 to June 2021 in the Netherlands
CONCLUSION: Whereas the increase in severity of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 with age remained stable, the risk of death upon infection decreased over time. A significant drop in risk of death among elderly coincided with the introduction of COVID-19 vaccination.PMID:37621921 | PMC:PMC10444602 | DOI:10.1111/irv.13174

A deep-SIQRV epidemic model for COVID-19 to access the impact of prevention and control measures
This article proposes an artificial intelligence(AI) based intelligent prediction model called Deep-SIQRV(Susceptible-Infected-Quarantined-Recovered-Vaccinated) to simulate the spreading of COVID-19. While many models assume that vaccination provides lifetime protection, we focus on the impact of waning immunity caused by the conversion of vaccinated individuals back to susceptible ones. Unlike existing models, which assume that all coronavirus-infected individuals have the same infection rate, the proposed model considers the various infection rates to analyze transmission laws and trends. Next, we consider the influence ...
