Activities of cellulose acetate and microcrystalline cellulose on the thermal and morphomechanical performances of a biobased hybrid composite made polybutylene succinate
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 15:126918. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126918. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMicrocrystalline cellulose (MCC-30 wt%) was extruded with a blend of polybutylene succinate (PBS) and cellulose acetate (CADS=2.5-20 wt%) to produce two grades of binary (PBS/CA, PBS/MCC) and ternary (PBS/CA/MCC) specimens by injection into a mold previously thermostated at 22 °C and 78 °C. The structure-property relationships of neat PBS (n-PBS) and PBS-based blends were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy, scanning ele...

Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 15:126882. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126882. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) of areca cellulose and guar gum grafted with poly (N, N'-dimethylacrylamide) was made by microwave irradiation technique. N, N-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) was used as the crosslinking agent. The network polymer was characterised using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Powder X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). The chemical interaction between the drug and the polymer was studied usin...

Ecotoxicological assessment of water phase exfoliated two-dimensional Group-VI transition metal dichalcogenides using zebrafish embryo model
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 15:140167. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140167. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAmong emerging layered materials, 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) nanosheets (n-sheets) have received increasing attention for optoelectronics, energy storage, and, recently, for bioremediation and advanced biomedical applications; however, a lack of ecotoxicological in vivo studies is evident. Herein, for the first time, the potential nanotoxicity of liquid phase exfoliated Group VI TMDs n-sheets (MoS2, WS2, WSe2, and MoSe2) was comparatively investigated using zebrafish embryos (Z-EBs) as an in-vivo model. Th...

Opening a window to skin biomarkers for diabetes stage with optoacoustic mesoscopy
Light Sci Appl. 2023 Sep 18;12(1):231. doi: 10.1038/s41377-023-01275-3.ABSTRACTBeing the largest and most accessible organ of the human body, the skin could offer a window to diabetes-related complications on the microvasculature. However, skin microvasculature is typically assessed by histological analysis, which is not suited for applications to large populations or longitudinal studies. We introduce ultra-wideband raster-scan optoacoustic mesoscopy (RSOM) for precise, non-invasive assessment of diabetes-related changes in the dermal microvasculature and skin micro-anatomy, resolved with unprecedented sensitivity and det...

A comparative analysis of head computed tomography scans protocols and thyroid dosimetry
Appl Radiat Isot. 2023 Sep 14;201:111031. doi: 10.1016/j.apradiso.2023.111031. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTComputed Tomography (CT) is currently one of the most widely used imaging modalities for disease identification, benefiting numerous patients with its advanced technology. However, there is a concern regarding its inappropriate use, which can lead to higher radiation doses in patients and consequently increase the potential risks of developing stochastic effects. Therefore, it is crucial to explore methodologies for optimizing patient doses, particularly in organs with higher radiosensitivity. Within this context, t...

Talanta. 2023 Sep 13;267:125166. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.125166. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNew multifunctional nanomaterial preparation and its application to trace pollutant analysis are interesting to peoples. Using terbium metal-organic framework loaded gold nanoparticles (MOFTb@Au) as the nanosubstrate and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) as the functional monomer, a new bifunctional nanosurface molecularly imprinted polymer nanoprobe of MOFTb@Au@MIP with strongly recognition and catalytic amplification functions was prepared by the microwave sol-gel procedure. It was characterized by scanning electron micr...

Gelatin-assisted fabrication of reduced nanographene oxide for dual-modal imaging of melanoma cells
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2023 Sep 14;231:113546. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2023.113546. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this work we report a gelatin-based, simple two-steps approach for fabrication of reduced graphene oxide (rGO-GEL) possessing high stability and biocompatibility, as novel label-free intracellular contrast agents. Gelatin, a biopolymer that is known for its versatility, was employed not only to biocompatibilize the rGO, but also to prevent the aggregation of the GO nanosheets during the reduction process. To confirm the successful reduction process and the attachment of the gelatin to the rGO nanoshe...

HSAFM-MIREBA - Methodology for Inferring REsolution in biological applications
Anal Biochem. 2023 Sep 15:115320. doi: 10.1016/j.ab.2023.115320. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDue to a lack of requirement for any direct labelling of the target molecule, high speed atomic force microscopy (HS-AFM) is a potentially powerful procedure for the assessment of biological processes involving macromolecules. When the sample is static the AFM device can be purposefully setup to recover high-resolution information about the feature in question. However, when the feature to be studied moves an appreciable amount during the course of the measurement, the obtained image will be blurred. Encountering such blurred obs...
