Prenatal Diagnosis and Molecular Cytogenetic Analyses of a de novo Deletion on Chromosome 4p16.3p15.33
Altern Ther Health Med. 2023 Sep 15:AT8915. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (WHS) (OMIM 194190) is a contiguous gene syndrome with an estimated prevalence of around 1 in 50,000 births. The syndrome is caused by the deletion of a critical region (Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome Critical region-WHSCR) on chromosome 4p16.3. Its core features are typical facial gestalt, growth retardation, intellectual disability, developmental delay, and seizures. Prenatal diagnosis of WHS helps clinicians and parents make informed decisions about pregnancy management. In this research, a 31-year-old woman (gravida 1, para 0) ...

Biomechanical characterization of tissue types in murine dissecting aneurysms based on histology and 4D ultrasound-derived strain
Biomech Model Mechanobiol. 2023 Oct;22(5):1773-1788. doi: 10.1007/s10237-023-01759-6. Epub 2023 Sep 14.ABSTRACTAbdominal aortic aneurysm disease is the local enlargement of the aorta, typically in the infrarenal section, causing up to 200,000 deaths/year. In vivo information to characterize the individual elastic properties of the aneurysm wall in terms of rupture risk is lacking. We used a method that combines 4D ultrasound and direct deformation estimation to compute in vivo 3D Green-Lagrange strain in murine angiotensin II-induced dissecting aortic aneurysms, a commonly used mouse model. After euthanasia, histological s...

Magnetic Localization of Breast Lesions: A Large-Scale European Evaluation in a National Cancer Institute
CONCLUSIONS: Image-guided localization with magnetic seeds is an easy, safe, reliable, and effective method for localizing nonpalpable breast lesions. Both radiologists and surgeons agreed that the technology was intuitive to use and that it can be widely applied in preoperative localization in breast units.PMID:37704563 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2023.08.004

Intravascular Ultrasound in Detection of Bridging Stent Graft Instability During Fenestrated and Branched Endovascular Aneurysm Repair Procedures: A Multicentre Study on 274 Target Vessels
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that IVUS is a safe and potentially valuable adjunct imaging technology for intra-operative detection of TVV instability. Further long term investigations on larger cohorts are required to validate these promising results and to compare IVUS with alternative technologies in terms of efficiency, radiation exposure, procedural time, and costs.PMID:37704100 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.09.009

Nondeformed Ultrasound Image Production Method for Ultrasound-Guided Radiotherapy
Conclusion: The pixel displacement-based deformation correction method can solve the limitation imposed by image deformation on image alignment in US-guided radiotherapy. Compared with USdef, the alignment results of USrev with CT were better.PMID:37700675 | DOI:10.1177/15330338231194546

Clinical Observation and Analysis of Thyroglossal Duct Cyst Carcinoma: A Report of 5 Cases
This study aimed to address these gaps by analyzing and summarizing the clinical features of 5 cases of papillary carcinoma arising in thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDC).Five patients with papillary carcinoma in TGDC treated by modified Sistrunk's procedure were included. Their clinical manifestation, physical examination findings, iconography, pathological findings, treatment, and outcomes were analyzed in aiding the diagnosis and treatment of TGDCCa. Immunohistochemistry was used to confirm the papillary carcinoma subtype. The BRAFV600E mutation was detected in 2 patients. No evidence of cancer recurrence, distant metastases...

The correlation between prenatal ultrasound and MRI in isolated periventricular pseudocysts: Analysis of 10 years' experience at the University Hospital of Angers
CONCLUSION: The finding of periventricular cysts in antenatal ultrasound should lead to a reference ultrasound, a key procedure for distinguishing between SEPC and FHC. In our study, no additional benefit from MRI and TFU was established for the evaluation of FHC. These findings should be considered as normal variants, thus limiting pre- and postnatal investigations. The visualization of SEPC, THC, or a parenchymal abnormality on the reference ultrasound should lead to an additional MRI being performed and a personalized follow-up of the child.PMID:37704521 | DOI:10.1016/j.arcped.2023.06.010

Operative hysteroscopy versus ultrasound-guided electric vacuum aspiration for removal of retained products of conception: A prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: In our cohort study, no significant differences in IUAs or complications were found. RPOC removal with HR was more often complete than removal with EVA, and additional therapeutic hysteroscopy was less frequently required after HR. These findings need to be correlated with those of RCTs.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was registered in de Dutch Trial Register (NTR4923). Date of registration 23-11-2014. Does unenhanced computerized tomography as imaging standard post-retrograde intrarenal surgery paradoxically reduce stone-free rate and increase additional treatment for residual fragments? Outcomes from 5395 patients in the FLEXOR study by the TOWER group
CONCLUSIONS: CT is the only reliable imaging to assess the burden of RFs following RIRS and urologist should consider at least one CT scan to determine the same and definitely plan reintervention only based on CT rather than ultrasound and X-ray combination.PMID:37701535 | PMC:PMC10493056 | DOI:10.1177/17562872231198629

Ultrasound-guided acupotomy for trigger finger: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Our systematic review and meta-analysis can prove the effectiveness and safety of ultrasound-guided acupotomy in the treatment of trigger finger, but this still needs to be verified by a clinical standard large sample test.PMID:37705066 | DOI:10.1186/s13018-023-04127-3

Translational strategies and systems biology insights for blood-brain barrier opening and delivery in brain tumors and Alzheimer's disease
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 11;167:115450. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115450. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe blood-brain barrier (BBB) plays a critical role in determining the effectiveness of systemic treatments for brain diseases. Over the years, several innovative approaches in BBB opening and drug delivery have been developed and progressed into clinical testing phases, including focused ultrasound (FUS) with circulating microbubbles, mannitol-facilitated delivery of anti-neoplastic drugs, receptor-mediated transcytosis (RMT) by antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and viral vectors for gene therapy. We provided a com...

Evaluation of the efficacy of ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma after one year
CONCLUSION: Ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation is safe and effective for treating single-focus micropapillary thyroid carcinoma while retaining thyroid function, with few and minor complications, which can be used as an ideal surgical option.PMID:37704471 | DOI:10.1016/j.asjsur.2023.08.218
