Enthesitis in Spondyloarthritis Including Psoriatic Arthritis-To Inject or Not To Inject?: A Narrative Review
Clin Ther. 2023 Sep 14:S0149-2918(23)00303-X. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2023.08.002. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: Enthesitis is a key manifestation of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and spondyloarthritis (SpA) and is considered to be the tissue where the disease initiates. Enthesitis leads to pain and substantial limitations in patients with PsA. Treatment is key in achieving remission or minimal disease activity. Whether it is safe to apply injections to entheseal tissue is unknown. This narrative review aimed to summarize the literature on the efficacy and tolerability of entheseal corticosteroid (CS) injections.METH...

Ultrasound Tongue Imaging in Research and Practice with People with Cleft Palate  ± Cleft Lip
Cleft Palate Craniofac J. 2023 Sep 16:10556656231202448. doi: 10.1177/10556656231202448. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUltrasound tongue imaging is becoming popular as a tool for both phonetic research and biofeedback for treating speech sound disorders. Despite this, it has not yet been adopted into cleft palate ± cleft lip care. This paper explores why this might be the case by highlighting recent research in this area and exploring the advantages and disadvantages of using ultrasound in cleft palate ± cleft lip care. Research suggests that technological advances have largely overcome some of the difficulties of employ...

Use of Temporary Percutaneous Peripheral Nerve Stimulation in an Oncologic Population: A  Retrospective Review
CONCLUSION: PNS is an emerging technology in neuromodulation that may be useful in managing pain, especially in the oncologic population. Patients with cancer-related and non-cancer-related pain localized to a specific nerve distribution should be considered appropriate candidates for PNS. Further research is needed to optimize patient selection and indications for PNS in the population with cancer.PMID:37715753 | DOI:10.1016/j.neurom.2023.06.009

Reliability of Ultrasound Measurement of Plantar Fascia Thickness: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this review suggest that ultrasound measurement of plantar fascia thickness is reliable in terms of both relative and absolute reliability. Reliability can be optimized by using the average of multiple measurements and an experienced operator.PMID:37715979 | DOI:10.7547/21-024

Imaging manifestations of wandering spleen with torsion
We present a case of a male patient admitted to the emergency department with vomiting, nausea, and persistent lower abdominal pain. Computed tomography and ultrasound were performed and were used to diagnose a wandering spleen with torsion leading to splenic infarctions. Subsequently, laparoscopic surgery and pathology confirmed this diagnosis. WHY SHOULD AN EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN BE AWARE OF THIS?: Ultrasound and computed tomography scans play a significant role in diagnosing WS and its complications, allowing an emergency physician to establish treatment options for WS.PMID:37716902 | DOI:10.1016/j.jemermed.2023.06.003

Glucosylated Hybrid TiO2/Polymer Nanomaterials for Actively Targeted Sonodynamic Therapy of Cancer
Researchers introduce a novel anticancer sonodynamic platform, namely glucosylated hybrid ceramic/polymeric nanoparticles. These precisely size-controlled nanoparticles enhance tumor-specific delivery using a surface modification with a glucose analog. When combined with therapeutic ultrasound, these nanoparticles dramatically reduce tumor growth and prolong the survival of rhabdomyosarcoma-bearing mice. This innovative strategy shows great potential for local anticancer treatment. AbstractSonodynamic therapy (SDT) is an anti-cancer therapeutic strategy based on the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon local ul...
