Preabortion ultrasound - a patient perspective
CONCLUSION: Most women opting for medical abortion through telemedicine did not undergo a pre-abortion ultrasound scan. The main reason stated was that women did not find it necessary, lack of resources and privacy issues.PMID:37698511 | DOI:10.1080/13625187.2023.2249158

Perforation of the cavum septi pellucidi in open spina bifida: association with need for hydrocephalus treatment by 1 year of age
CONCLUSIONS: The detection of a pCSP in fetuses with ONTD can reliably identify those cases at highest risk for needing hydrocephalus treatment by 1 year of age. The evaluation of this brain structure can greatly improve our counseling to families considering fetal surgery for ONTD, in order to set expectations about postnatal outcome. Determinants of emergency delivery in pregnancies complicated by placenta previa or placenta accreta spectrum disorders: analysis of ADoPAD Cohort
CONCLUSION: Emergency CD complicated about 20% of women with PAS disorders and 30% of those with placenta previa and not PAS and is associated with a worse maternal and perinatal outcome compared to elective intervention. Prenatal ultrasound cannot entirely predict the risk of emergency delivery in women with these disorders. This article is protected by copyright. Screening for pre-eclampsia with competing risks model using placental growth factor measurements in blood samples collected before 11  weeks' gestation
CONCLUSIONS: Gestational age for PlGF samples might be expanded from 11-14 weeks to 10-14 weeks in risk assessment for preeclampsia using the FMF first trimester screening model. There is little evidence to support the use of PlGF collected before 10 weeks' gestation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.PMID:37698230 | DOI:10.1002/uog.27462

The role of lung ultrasound for detecting atelectasis, consolidation, and/or pneumonia in the adult cardiac surgery population: A scoping review of the literature
Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) frequently occur after cardiac surgery and may lead to adverse patient outcomes. Traditional diagnostic tools such as auscultation or chest x-ray have inferior diagnostic accuracy compared to the gold standard (chest computed tomography). Lung ultrasound (LUS) is an emerging area of research combating these issues. However, no review has employed a formal search strategy to examine the role of LUS in identifying the specific PPCs of atelectasis, consolidation, and/or pneumonia  or investigated the ability of LUS to predict these complications in this cohort.

The burden of abdominal pain after bariatric surgery in terms of diagnostic testing: the OPERATE study
CONCLUSION: The diagnostic burden in patients with abdominal pain following BS is high. The most frequently performed diagnostic test is an abdominal CT scan, yielding the highest number of diagnoses in these patients.PMID:37696732 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.08.006

Preparation, Characterization, and Molecular Dynamic Simulation of Novel Coenzym Q10 Loaded Nanostructured Lipid Carriers
CONCLUSION: The solid lipids: tripalmitin and compritol, stabilized with 4% tween 80 and 1% span 80, have produced stable NLC with the best surface characteristics that could be a promising formulation for the delivery of Q10. Atomistic M.D. simulation has confirmed the stability of F1 in comparison to F31.PMID:37694784 | DOI:10.2174/1381612829666230911105913

Functional Alterations of the Basal Ganglia Are Associated with Voluntary Activation of the Core Stabilizing Muscles in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain: A Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSIONS: Grey matter alterations may be confined to regions responsible for perception, motor control, and emotion regulation in patients with CLBP. The interrupted EC from the basal ganglia to the default mode network might be involved in the impairment of voluntary activation of the core stabilizing muscles.PMID:37693681 | PMC:PMC10484657 | DOI:10.1155/2023/2028379
