Validating a machine-learning model for first-trimester prediction of pre-eclampsia using the cohort from the PREVAL study
CONCLUSION: A machine learning model for first-trimester prediction of PE based on a neural network provides effective screening for PE that can be applied in different populations but before doing so it is essential to make adjustments for the analyzers used for biochemical testing. Perforation of the cavum septi pellucidi in open spina bifida: association with need for hydrocephalus treatment by 1 year of age
CONCLUSIONS: The detection of a pCSP in fetuses with ONTD can reliably identify those cases at highest risk for needing hydrocephalus treatment by 1 year of age. The evaluation of this brain structure can greatly improve our counseling to families considering fetal surgery for ONTD, in order to set expectations about postnatal outcome. Determinants of emergency delivery in pregnancies complicated by placenta previa or placenta accreta spectrum disorders: analysis of ADoPAD Cohort
CONCLUSION: Emergency CD complicated about 20% of women with PAS disorders and 30% of those with placenta previa and not PAS and is associated with a worse maternal and perinatal outcome compared to elective intervention. Prenatal ultrasound cannot entirely predict the risk of emergency delivery in women with these disorders. This article is protected by copyright. Screening for pre-eclampsia with competing risks model using placental growth factor measurements in blood samples collected before 11  weeks' gestation
CONCLUSIONS: Gestational age for PlGF samples might be expanded from 11-14 weeks to 10-14 weeks in risk assessment for preeclampsia using the FMF first trimester screening model. There is little evidence to support the use of PlGF collected before 10 weeks' gestation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.PMID:37698230 | DOI:10.1002/uog.27462

Presentation of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor, Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma, and Gastric Adenocarcinoma in a Woman With No Identifiable Genetic Abnormalities
This report details the first known case of co-occurrence of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and gastric adenocarcinoma in an individual with no identifiable genetic abnormalities. The patient is a 57-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain. CT scan demonstrated a pancreatic mass, and endoscopic ultrasound demonstrated an additional gastric mass. Biopsy of both masses demonstrated adenocarcinoma; however, the masses were found to have different origins. The patient underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy with excellent response. She then underwent surgical intervention, which demonstr...

Preabortion ultrasound - a patient perspective
CONCLUSION: Most women opting for medical abortion through telemedicine did not undergo a pre-abortion ultrasound scan. The main reason stated was that women did not find it necessary, lack of resources and privacy issues.PMID:37698511 | DOI:10.1080/13625187.2023.2249158

F-number optimization for synthetic aperture delay-multiply-and-sum reconstruction
In this study, we measured the impact on main lobe to side lobe energy ratio (MSER), generalized contrast-to-noise ratio (gCNR), and spatial resolution when varying receive and transmit f-numbers from 1 to 5 in 0.2 increments in DAS and DMAS reconstructed SA images. A wire target in a water tank and a standard imaging phantom were used to measure these metrics. From the water tank wire target images, higher MSER values were achieved with middle-range transmit f-numbers (2-4) and high receive f-numbers (>4) for both DAS and DMAS. From the phantom contrast target images, DAS produced images with high gCNR when using high ...

The exercise pressor reflex - a pressure-raising mechanism with a limited role in regulating leg perfusion during locomotion in young healthy men
J Physiol. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1113/JP284870. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe investigated the role of the exercise pressor reflex (EPR) in regulating the haemodynamic response to locomotor exercise. Eight healthy participants (23 ± 3 years, V ̇ O 2 max ${\dot V_{{{\mathrm{O}}_{\mathrm{2}}}{\mathrm{max}}}}$ : 49 ± 6 ml/kg/min) performed constant-load cycling exercise (∼36/43/52/98% V ̇ O 2 max ${\dot V_{{{\mathrm{O}}_{\mathrm{2}}}{\mathrm{max}}}}$ ; 4 min each) without (CTRL) and with (FENT) lumbar intrathecal fentanyl attenuating group III/IV locomotor muscle afferent feedback and, thus, the EPR. To avoid differ...
