Correlationship between self-assembly behavior and emulsion stabilization of pea protein-high methoxyl pectin complexes treated with ultrasound at pH 2.0
This study investigated the effects of ultrasound on the self-assembly behavior of pea protein (PP)-high methoxyl pectin (HMP) complexes at pH 2.0 through transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and intrinsic fluorescence analysis. The emulsion stabilization mechanism of PP-HMP treated with ultrasound (PP-HMP-US) was also elucidated. The results indicated that ultrasound increased the emulsifying activity index (EAI) and emulsifying stability index (ESI) of PP-HMP. Moreover, PP-HMP-US-based emulsions formed small, dispersed oil drops, which were stable during storage. PP-HMP-...

Ultrasonic-pretreated hydrothermal synthesis of less dense zeolite CHA from the transformation of zeolite T
Ultrason Sonochem. 2023 Sep 14;100:106598. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2023.106598. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBecause of containing the same double 6-ring (D6R) building unit, the pure zeolite CHA with lower framework density (FDSi = 15.1 T/1000 Å3) has been transformed from zeolite T with higher framework density (FDSi = 16.1 T/1000 Å3) through ultrasonic-pretreated hydrothermal synthesis in MOH (KOH and NaOH) solution without adding organic template or seed crystals. Ultrasonic pretreatment facilitates the transformation rate and generates high-quality zeolite CHA. The ultrasound condition should be precisely controlle...

Ultrasound improves the low-sodium salt curing of sea bass: Insights into the effects of ultrasound on texture, microstructure, and flavor characteristics
Ultrason Sonochem. 2023 Sep 11;100:106597. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2023.106597. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of ultrasonic pretreatment on the quality of cured sea bass. Compared to static marination, ultrasonication significantly increased the rate of NaCl transfer, reduced the hardness and chewiness of fish, and improved water retention. Microstructural observations revealed that the sea bass muscle fibers were severely fragmented, with their borders becoming increasingly blurred with increasing ultrasonic intensity. In addition, ultrasound-assisted marination signif...

Reliability of tomographic 3D ultrasound in measuring internal carotid artery plaque volume
CONCLUSION: t3DUS is a reproducible imaging method and showed excellent agreement with the reference standard with respect to measuring CPV. These findings suggest that t3DUS has the potential to be a valuable non-invasive tool for assessing carotid plaque burden and predicting the risk of stroke.PMID:37722861 | DOI:10.1177/02841851231199222

mpMRI-targeted biopsy of the prostate in men ≥ 75 years. 7-year report from a high-volume referral center
CONCLUSION: After evaluation of a large patient cohort, we show that age≥75 years represents a significant risk factor for the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer. Further studies on mid- and long term outcome are necessary to draw conclusions for clinical decision making in this patient cohort.PMID:37718788 | DOI:10.3233/CH-238101

Probability of Cavitation in a Custom Iron-Based Coupling Medium for Transcranial Magnetic Resonance-Guided Focused Ultrasound Procedures
A coupling bath of circulating, chilled, degassed water is essential to safe and precise acoustic transmittance during transcranial magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (tMRgFUS) procedures, but the circulating water impairs the critical real-time magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). An iron-based coupling medium (IBCM) using iron oxide nanoparticles previously developed by our group increased the relaxivity of the coupling bath such that it appears to be invisible on MRI compared with degassed water.

(New) antenatal ultrasound signs of fetal junctional epidermolysis bullosa: A case report and systematic review of literature
We describe a marked perioral hipoecogenicity as a novel sign of skin-mucous denudation, which could be helpful for future diagnosis. A review of literature, focused specifically on the antenatal sonography role, is also reported. Prenatal ultrasound-based diagnosis of epidermolysis bullosa is difficult, especially in apparently low risk contexts, but may be possible.PMID:37717401 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.08.379
