The effects of biological sex and oral contraception on the sympathetic neurocirculatory adjustments to static handgrip exercise in humans
Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1152/ajpregu.00147.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBiological sex affects the neurocirculatory adjustments to fatiguing exercise. However, the effects of sex and oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) on sympathetic action potential (AP) emission patterns and the transduction of AP discharge into vasoconstriction during static handgrip (SHG) exercise remains unknown. We tested the hypothesis that males, and females using OCPs, would demonstrate larger increases in sympathetic activation and sympathetic vascular transduction compared to naturally menstruating females...

Rapid Onset Vasodilation during Baroreceptor Loading and Unloading
Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1152/ajpregu.00116.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of these experiments was to determine if the increase in vascular conductance following a single muscle contraction (50% MVC) (6 male & 6 female subjects) was altered by baroceptor loading and unloading. Rapid onset vasodilation (ROV) was determined by measuring brachial artery blood flow (Doppler ultrasound), and blood pressure (Finapress). Brachial artery vascular conductance was calculated dividing blood flow by mean arterial pressure. ROV was described by the area under the ∆VC-time curv...

Preparation, Characterization, and Molecular Dynamic Simulation of Novel Coenzym Q10 Loaded Nanostructured Lipid Carriers
CONCLUSION: The solid lipids: tripalmitin and compritol, stabilized with 4% tween 80 and 1% span 80, have produced stable NLC with the best surface characteristics that could be a promising formulation for the delivery of Q10. Atomistic M.D. simulation has confirmed the stability of F1 in comparison to F31.PMID:37694784 | DOI:10.2174/1381612829666230911105913

Functional Alterations of the Basal Ganglia Are Associated with Voluntary Activation of the Core Stabilizing Muscles in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain: A Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSIONS: Grey matter alterations may be confined to regions responsible for perception, motor control, and emotion regulation in patients with CLBP. The interrupted EC from the basal ganglia to the default mode network might be involved in the impairment of voluntary activation of the core stabilizing muscles.PMID:37693681 | PMC:PMC10484657 | DOI:10.1155/2023/2028379

Green synthetic strategies and pharmaceutical applications of thiazine and its derivatives: An updated review
Curr Pharm Biotechnol. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.2174/1389201025666230908141543. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThiazines are a sizable class of organic heterocycles that are notable for their skeletal versatility and relative chemical simplicity, making them among the most flexible sources of biologically active compounds. The term "green synthesis" refers to implementing energy-efficient procedures for the nature-friendly production of materials and chemicals using green solvents, catalysts, and suitable reaction conditions.Considering the importance of green chemistry and the outstanding therapeutic profile of thiazines, the p...

Comparison of the diagnostic performance of three ultrasound thyroid nodule risk stratification systems for follicular thyroid neoplasm: K-TIRADS, ACR -TIRADS and C-TIRADS
CONCLUSION: The three TIRADS classifications were not conducive to distinguishing FTA from FTC. It is necessary to develop a novel malignant risk stratification system specifically for the identification of follicular thyroid neoplasms.PMID:37694360 | DOI:10.3233/CH-231898

The burden of abdominal pain after bariatric surgery in terms of diagnostic testing: the OPERATE study
CONCLUSION: The diagnostic burden in patients with abdominal pain following BS is high. The most frequently performed diagnostic test is an abdominal CT scan, yielding the highest number of diagnoses in these patients.PMID:37696732 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.08.006

Comparison of microvascular flow imaging and contrast-enhanced ultrasound for blood flow analysis of cervical lymph node lesions
CONCLUSION: Both CEUS and MVFI are valuable in differentiating benign and malignant lesions of lymph nodes and have a similar diagnostic performance; however, MVFI is less invasive and simpler than CEUS. Therefore it is preferred for auxiliary examination of enlarged lymph nodes that are difficult to diagnose by conventional ultrasound.PMID:37694358 | DOI:10.3233/CH-231860

Prostate health index can stratify patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions on magnetic resonance imaging to reduce prostate biopsies
Asian J Androl. 2023 Aug 22. doi: 10.4103/aja202332. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe aim to evaluate prostate health index as an additional risk-stratification tool in patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging. Men with biochemical or clinical suspicion of having prostate cancer who underwent multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging in two tertiary centers (Queen Mary Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital, Hong Kong, China) between January 2017 and June 2022 were included. Ultrasound-magnetic resonance imaging fusion biopsies were performed a...
