Impact of blood-brain barrier disruption on clinical features and treatment response in patients with newly diagnosed autoimmune encephalitis
Blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown is an essential mechanism in inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system. However, the association between BBB integrity and autoimmune encephalitis (AE) has not been investigated. Our study aimed to analyze this relationship in patients with AE between BBB integrity with clinical manifestations and therapeutic responses.

Chimeric CNS-targeting-peptide engineered exosomes for experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis therapy
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Sep 15;124(Pt B):110835. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110835. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMultiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that causes demyelination, neuronal damage and white matter loss, but there is still no known cure. Exosomes are 30-200 nm-sized double-layered membrane vesicles that can easily cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Exosomes from umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells(UMSCs) have been found to treat experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) through the action of anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory, but its clinic...

Language impairments in people with autoimmune neurological diseases: A scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Language symptoms in people with ANDs are commonly reported. These are often not full descriptions or only focus on specific time points in the course of the disease. Future research needs to assess specific language functions in people with ANDs and relate their language impairments to brain damage at different stages of disease evolution.PMID:37717472 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcomdis.2023.106368

Regulatory effect of zinc finger protein A20 on rheumatoid arthritis through NLRP3/Caspase-1 signaling axis mediating pyroptosis of HFLS- RA cells
In conclusion, this study is of great significance for understanding the role of the NLRP3-caspase-1-IL-1β/ pyroptosis signaling pathway in the occurrence and development of RA. It is expected that the results will provide a theoretical basis for the immune regulation of innate immunity in the occurrence and development of RA, while providing a new therapeutic target for the clinical treatment of RA.PMID:37715399 | DOI:10.14715/cmb/2023.69.8.27

Immune-Related Adverse Event Likelihood Score Identifies "Pure" IRAEs Strongly Associated With Outcome in a Phase I-II Trial Population
CONCLUSION: ILS provides a simple system to identify bona fide IRAEs, pruning for other treatment-related events likely due to different pathophysiology. Applying stringent criteria leads to lower and more reliable estimates of IRAE incidence and identifies events with significant impact on survival.PMID:37715957 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad239

Hepatic safety and efficacy of immunomodulatory drugs used in patients with autoimmune hepatitis
CONCLUSION: Among 25 AIH patients who were treated with immunomodulatory drugs for different reasons, the majority had a fovorable course, relapse was frequent in difficult-to-treat patients who received belimumab, and four with concomitant IBD had insufficient response.PMID:37716078 | DOI:10.1016/j.jaut.2023.103113

Harnessing autoimmunity with dominant self-peptide: Modulating the sustainability of tissue-preferential antigen-specific Tregs by governing the binding stability via peptide flanking residues
J Autoimmun. 2023 Sep 14;140:103094. doi: 10.1016/j.jaut.2023.103094. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSensitization to self-peptides induces various immunological responses, from autoimmunity to tumor immunity, depending on the peptide sequence; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear, and thus, curative therapeutic options considering immunity balance are limited. Herein, two overlapping dominant peptides of myelin proteolipid protein, PLP136-150 and PLP139-151, which induce different forms of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), monophasic and relapsing EAE, respectively, were investigated. Mice with ...

Acquired angioedema due to C1-inhibitor-deficiency (AAE-C1-INH) - a bi-center retrospective study on diagnosis, course and therapy
CONCLUSION: AAE-C1-INH is characterized by late onset swellings mainly involving the face and low C1-INH levels. Diagnostic delay for AAE-C1-INH is further decreasing despite being about 10-fold rarer than HAE. Patients severely affected without underlying condition or no indication for treatment could benefit from off-label therapy.PMID:37716525 | DOI:10.1016/j.jaip.2023.09.003
