A unique case of a newborn with a hemangioma on the omphalocele sac
CONCLUSIONS: When dealing with umbilical mass lesions in the prenatal and postnatal periods, a hemangioma on the omphalocele sac should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients when an omphalocele is suspected.PMID:36305446 | DOI:10.24953/turkjped.2021.5045

Delivery room surgery: an applicable therapeutic strategy for gastroschisis in developing countries.
CONCLUSIONS: The strategy of delivery of patients in a center prepared to perform delivery room closure of gastroschisis appears to improve the survival of patients with gastroschisis. Further reduction in mortality rates will depend on improved conditions of outborn infants. PMID: 24464667 [PubMed - in process]

Prevalence and risk factors for gastroschisis in a public hospital from west México
Abstract Mexico is recognized as a country with a high prevalence of gastroschisis, although the cause of this remains unclear. We define the prevalence and potential risk factors for gastroschisis in a public hospital from West México. A case‐control study was conducted among 270 newborns, including 90 patients with nonsyndromic gastroschisis (cases) and 180 infants without birth defects (controls), born all during the period 2009 to 2013 at the Hospital Civil de Guadalajara “Dr. Juan I. Menchaca” (Guadalajara, Mexico), from out of a total of 51,145 livebirths. Potential maternal risk factors for gastroschisis were...

Better Diet Quality before Pregnancy Is Associated with Reduced Risk of Gastroschisis in Hispanic Women Nutrition and Disease
Conclusions: Increasing diet quality was associated with a reduced risk of gastroschisis only among Hispanic and foreign-born women, but these findings require replication.

Contemporary Trends in the Use of Primary Repair for Gastroschisis in Surgical Infants
Conclusion Following introduction of a less invasive technique for gastroschisis repair, most infants with gastroschisis were able to be repaired primarily. Primary repair should be considered in all babies with gastroschisis and favorable anatomy.

Increasing Prevalence of Gastroschisis - 14 States, 1995-2012.
Abstract Gastroschisis is a serious congenital defect in which the intestines protrude through an opening in the abdominal wall. Gastroschisis requires surgical repair soon after birth and is associated with an increased risk for medical complications and mortality during infancy. Reports from multiple surveillance systems worldwide have documented increasing prevalence of gastroschisis since the 1980s, particularly among younger mothers (1,2); however, since publication of a multistate U.S. report that included data through 2005 (1), it is not known whether prevalence has continued to increase. Data on gastroschi...

Antenatal ultrasound features in fetuses with gastroschisis and its prediction in neonatal outcome
ConclusionsExtra‐abdominal bowel dilatation is a statistically significant marker of complex gastroschisis and associated morbidity. Its presence in infants who had uncomplicated outcomes, suggests that clinically, its usefulness in antenatal counselling is still debatable.

Relationship between neonatal gastroschisis and maternal body mass index in a Uinted Kingdom population
Conclusion Our results confirm the previously reported association between low maternal age and gastroschisis but suggest that within our UK population the link between low BMI and gastroschisis reported elsewhere is explained by younger mothers being thinner.

Incidence and treatment of adhesive bowel obstruction after gastroschisis closure
Conclusion: In this study, 16% of the patients born with gastroschisis within a 7-year period presented with a adhesive obstruction. Occurrence of obstruction was unrelated to the method of closure or the severity of the defect. Although conservative management with nasogastric tube decompression may be effective initially, over half of patients with occlusion will need eventual surgery for lysis of adhesions.

Vanishing gastroschisis visualized by antenatal ultrasound: a case report and review of literature
We report a case of vanishing gastroschisis visualized by antenatal ultrasound with a 7-year long term follow-up. Currently, the child is still dependent on daily parenteral nutrition with no signs of hepatotoxicity. To our knowledge, it’s the fourth case with a long-term follow-up. Vanishing gastroschisis is a rare complication of gastroschisis. However, physicians should be aware of it because its prognosis is worse than classical gastroschisis. When a vanishing gastroschisis is visualized or suspected by antenatal ultrasound, prenatal counseling is required with explanations about the risk of short bowel syndrome, the...

Early delivery in fetal gastroschisis: a randomized controlled trial of elective 34-week delivery vs routine obstetrical care.
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates no benefit of elective late preterm delivery of fetuses with gastroschisis when postnatal gastroschisis management is similar to that used in routine care. Rather, the data suggest that elective preterm delivery is detrimental to infants with gastroschisis. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Gastroschisis in Finland 1993 to 2014 —Increasing Prevalence, High Rates of Abortion, and Survival: A Population-Based Study
Conclusion Gastroschisis is usually an isolated anomaly with increasing birth prevalence and excellent survival rates. Regardless of the good prognosis, the abortion rates in Finland are higher than previously reported, and we hypothesize this to be due to lack of appropriate antenatal counselling.
