Transcriptomics integrated with metabolomics reveals perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS) exposure effect during pregnancy and lactation on lipid metabolism in rat offspring
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 9:140120. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140120. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEmerging epidemiological evidence indicates potential associations between gestational perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS) exposure and adverse metabolic outcomes in offspring. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Our study aimed to investigate PFBS exposure effects during pregnancy and lactation on rat offspring lipid profiles and the possible underlying mechanisms. Although the biochemical index difference including total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprot...

Apolipoprotein A-I vascular gene therapy reduces vein-graft atherosclerosis
Mol Ther Methods Clin Dev. 2023 Aug 22;30:558-572. doi: 10.1016/j.omtm.2023.08.018. eCollection 2023 Sep 14.ABSTRACTCoronary artery venous bypass grafts typically fail because of atherosclerosis driven by lipid and macrophage accumulation. Therapy for vein-graft atherosclerosis is limited to statin drugs, which are only modestly effective. We hypothesized that transduction of vein-graft endothelium of fat-fed rabbits with a helper-dependent adenovirus expressing apolipoprotein AI (HDAdApoAI) would reduce lipid and macrophage accumulation. Fat-fed rabbits received bilateral external jugular vein-to-carotid artery interposit...

PCSK9 inhibitors suppress oxidative stress and inflammation in atherosclerotic development by promoting macrophage autophagy
CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals a novel protective mechanism by which PCSK9 inhibition enhances autophagy and thereby reduces oxidative stress and inflammation in atherosclerosis.PMID:37692938 | PMC:PMC10492065

Chronic unpredictable mild stress promotes atherosclerosis < em > via < /em > adipose tissue dysfunction in ApoE < sup > -/- < /sup > mice
CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicated that CUMS induces adipose tissue dysfunction via a mechanism that leads to dyslipidemia, increased inflammation, and insulin resistance in the body, thereby exacerbating atherosclerosis. Notably, CUMS that is involved in decreasing the expression of HDL-associated proteins in adipose tissue may be a crucial link between adipose hypertrophy and advanced atherosclerosis. This study reveals a novel mechanism via which CUMS exacerbates atherosclerosis from the novel perspective of abnormal adipose function and identifies a novel potential therapeutic target for this disease.PMID:37692113 |...

Kaempferia parviflora rhizome extract exerts anti-obesity effect in high-fat diet-induced obese C57BL/6N mice
Food Nutr Res. 2023 Aug 23;67. doi: 10.29219/fnr.v67.9413. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTKaempferia parviflora (KP) rhizome, also called black ginger, has been used as a herbal medicine for many centuries. This current study was aimed at exploring whether KP rhizome extract (KPE) had anti-obesity effects and the mechanism involved. Five-week-old C57BL/6N male mice were allocated into five groups for 8-week feeding with control diet (CD), high-fat diet (HFD), HFD + 150 mg/kg body weight (BW)/day KPE (HFD+K150), HFD + 300 mg/kg BW/day KPE (HFD+K300), and HFD + 600 mg/kg BW/day KPE (HFD+K600). KPE decreased BW, body fat mass, adip...

Association of outdoor artificial light at night with metabolic syndrome and the modifying effect of tree and grass cover
CONCLUSIONS: Outdoor ALAN exposure is associated with an increased MetS risk, especially in males, the elderly, urban residents, those lacking physical activity, and those living in lower levels of grass cover and tree cover.PMID:37696078 | DOI:10.1016/j.ecoenv.2023.115452

Effect of β-sitosterol on insulin resistance & amp; protein expression of insulin signalling molecules in quadriceps muscle of high fat diet-induced type-2 diabetic rats
Bioinformation. 2022 Nov 30;18(11):1098-1104. doi: 10.6026/973206300181098. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTChanges in life style, such as high-calorie diet intake and lack of exercise, have increased the global prevalence of obesity and diabetes. The major pathophysiological event contributing to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus is the target tissues to insulin action. Currently available drugs are unsuccessful for the treatment of type 2 diabetes due to their unwanted side effects. Hence, search drugs, from plant sources. β-sitosterol is plant sterols with structurally almost like that of cholesterol. It is widely p...
