Multivessel Coronary Artery Disease Complicated by Diabetes Mellitus Has a Relatively Small Effect on Endothelial and Lipoprotein Lipases Expression in the Human Atrial Myocardium and Coronary Perivascular Adipose Tissue
Int J Mol Sci. 2023 Aug 31;24(17):13552. doi: 10.3390/ijms241713552.ABSTRACTEndothelial (EL) and lipoprotein (LPL) lipases are enzymes involved in lipoproteins metabolism and formation of atherosclerosis, a pathological feature of coronary artery disease (CAD). This paper examines the role of the lipases in the right atrial appendage (RAA) and coronary perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) of patients with CAD alone or with accompanying diabetes. Additionally, correlation analysis for plasma concentration of the lipases, apolipoproteins (ApoA-ApoJ) and blood lipids (Chol, HDL-C, LDL-C, TAG) was performed. We observed that CAD...

Performance and mechanism of co-culture of Monascus purpureus, Lacticaseibacillus casei, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to enhance lovastatin production and lipid-lowering effects
Bioprocess Biosyst Eng. 2023 Sep 9. doi: 10.1007/s00449-023-02903-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo facilitate lipid-lowering effects, a lovastatin-producing microbial co-culture system (LPMCS) was constituted with a novel strain Monascus purpureus R5 in combination with Lacticaseibacillus casei S5 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae J7, which increased lovastatin production by 54.21% compared with the single strain R5. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) optimization indicated lovastatin yield peaked at 7.43 mg/g with a fermentation time of 13.88 d, water content of 50.5%, and inoculum ratio of 10.27%. Meanwhile, lovastatin in ...

Causality of Diabetic Nephropathy and Age-related Macular Degeneration: A Mendelian Randomization Study
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that the impact of DN on the development of AMD may be more substantial than previously believed. Furthermore, elevated HDL-C levels appear to heighten the risk of AMD, whereas triglycerides may provide a protective effect.PMID:37689221 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2023.147787

The Role of Endoplasmic Reticulum in Lipotoxicity during MASLD Pathogenesis
Am J Pathol. 2023 Sep 7:S0002-9440(23)00314-0. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpath.2023.08.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPerturbations in lipid and protein homeostasis induce endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in metabolic-dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Lipotoxic and proteotoxic stress can activate the unfolded protein response (UPR) transducers: Inositol Requiring Enzyme1α, PKR-like ER Kinase and Activating Transcription Factor 6α. Collectively, these pathways induce expression of genes that encode functions to resolve the protein folding defect ...
